The time has come for us to rise in prophetic declarations in the body of Christ. We need authority via our mouth, moving in the power of God resident within us to dismantle the works of the enemy in our life, calling into being the will of God into situations and circumstances and speaking into existence that which does not exist. When we make prophetic declarations, what we say becomes firm in the spirit realm first then it’s only a matter of time with consistency, it will manifest in the physical realm. It is important to note that when you speak a prophetic declaration, you speak in the present as if you have already have it (Matthew 11:23-24). It is your present declarations that will become your future manifestation. What you declare today is creating your tomorrow. It is your voice that will determine your victory in life (Psalms 81:10) with your declarations you will conquer all your enemies. You are a king here on earth and every king rules by decree and declaration. So with this book in your hands, begin to declare and release the power for the miraculous work of God in your life. Joseph of Nazareth was a good and honorable man. The adoptive father of Jesus, he stood by his wife and raised her son—even when it appeared that she had betrayed him. Such is the love of adoption. But this love stands in stark contrast to what we see in our world today: on-demand abortion, unreported abuse, and widespread neglect.

Adapted from Russell Moore’s influential book Adopted for Life: The Priority of Adoption for Christian Families and Churches, this short volume calls Christians to seriously consider adoption for their own families and thus take a stand for children—born and unborn.

Adoption: What Joseph of Nazareth Can Teach Us about This Countercultural Choice, by Russell Moore

Review

"The older I grow, the more I am personally convinced that the church is our Lord's answer to the adopting of so many precious children who so desperately are in need of a good home. Dr. Russell Moore has done the church a tremendous service by reminding us in this writing of the call of God to meet the ever pressing needs of these little ones. Read with the intent to obey."—Johnny Hunt, Former President, The Southern Baptist Convention; Senior Pastor, First Baptist Church Woodstock, Woodstock, Georgia

"Russell Moore shows how churches should view adoption as part of their mission. He shows what a difference it would make if Christians were known once again as the people who take in orphans and make them sons and daughters."—Marvin Olasky, Editor in Chief, World News Group

"This is a powerfully insightful book of how adoption is a beautiful act of love and mission for the gospel. I pray that God uses this book to encourage and impact many, many lives."—Dan Kimball, Pastor, Vintage Faith Church; author, They Like Jesus but Not the Church

"This book is for all who have been adopted by God. Moore illumines the beauty and wonder of our adoption in Christ and its profound and necessary implications for orphan care and the earthly practice of adoption. If you want to deepen your worship of the God who adopts and who has revealed himself to be a 'Father to the fatherless,' Adoption will serve you exceptionally well."—Dan Cruver, Director, Together for Adoption; author, Reclaiming Adoption: Missional Living Through the Rediscovery of Abba Father

"The Bible tells us that pure religion is caring for widows and orphans. Dr. Russell Moore challenges Christians to an aspect of Christ's Lordship that many have never considered. His remarkable way of putting our salvation into the context of being adopted into God's family brings a new perspective on being the recipient of undeserved mercy and grace."—Jerry Rankin, Former President, International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention

3 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Brief but powerful words on adoption By Paul Mastin My family loves adoption. My church loves adoption. One of my three children is adopted, and as I look around our church, I see children adopted domestically, through private agencies and state foster care, adopted as babies and adopted as older children, adopted from Africa and Europe. Any my church isn't very big! I love that it's a part of our church's culture.Russell Moore wants that to be the case for every church, and I'm with him. In Adoption: What Joseph of Nazareth Can Teach Us about This Countercultural Choice, he writes, "Imagine if Christian churches were known as the places where unwanted babies become beloved children." Amen, brother. Joseph is our model. His teenage fiance had become pregnant from someone else. He modeled the love God has for us as Jesus grew up.I applaud Moore's commitment to adoption and his extensive writing promoting it. He emphasizes the spiritual importance of adoption. It "isn't charity. It isn't part of a political program. . . . It's spiritual warfare." Adoption not only makes a difference in the life of a child, it makes a difference in the spiritual realm as well. I hope many more churches take up the mantle of adoption, not only to meet the needs of the many children without a family, but to demonstrate to the world that there is enough love in the kingdom of God for every child, and that no child is worthless or unwanted.(One note about the book: This is actually a chapter taken from his earlier book Adopted for Life. I presume the idea is that in this booklet form, Moore can get the message to more people and more people would be likely to read it. I received it as an advance electronic review copy [for which I'm grateful]. If I were buying it, I think I would spend the extra couple of bucks to get Adopted for Life.)Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the complimentary electronic review copy!

You see my wife and I made the decision to adopt our daughter a little over three years ago despite the concerns posed by many, the questions we had about taking a pre-teen into our home to be our daughter, financial worries about the cost of the adoption process, among many other issues we wrestled with. One thing is certain and that is we were confident God had called us to adopt. Looking back, it was one of the best decisions of our life.Adoption is not an easy road to walk and not everyone is called to take a child into their home to be theirs. With that said, all believers are called by God to be involved in taking care of the orphans and the fatherless. Russell Moore, in his helpful little book called Adoption: What Joseph of Nazareth Can Teach Us About This Countercultural Choice, drives home the importance of helping those in need in a way that will assuredly be a kick in the pants for some and a source of reassurance for others that have become engaged in this importance issue.Moore uses Joseph the earthly father of Jesus as the example of what someone might face who adopts or dares to go against the cultural tide to care for the plethora of children who need a home. He notes the actions of Joseph often take a back seat when we examine the birth of Jesus. This is unfortunate because we can learn quite a bit from how Joseph followed the leading of God and stepped in as the adopted father of Jesus. Moore aptly comments, “Joseph’s fatherhood is significant for us precisely because of the way the gospel anchors it to the fatherhood of God himself.” He goes on to rightly note, “Joseph is unique in one sense. He is called to provide for and protect the Christ of God. But in other ways Joseph is not unique at all. All of us, as followers of Christ, are called to protect children.”The Church and her leaders often write and speak on the need to evangelize. With that said, we often forget that reaching out to those in need is a function of evangelism and sharing the gospel, be that the unwed teenage mother who is scared to death and feels the only option is an abortion, whether that is an abused child who needs a loving place and parents who will care and protect, or whether that means financially supporting organizations around the world that reach out to children who sit in orphanages waiting for someone to lend them a loving hand and a permanent home. Moore drives this reality home throughout this book and I truly hope the reader will pick up on that urgent message and will in turn help transform the lives of these children in the manner God has called them.We live in a culture that believes children are a burden and a drag on our ability to enjoy life to the fullest. When children get in the way, they are discarded. This societal thought process is antithetical to what we find in Scripture, namely God’s continued call to His people to care for the orphans and fatherless. As Moore has demonstrated through the life of Joseph and his care for our Savior, reaching out sometimes comes at a financial, emotional, and even relational cost to those who answers God’s call. In the end however, doing the work God has called us, whether that is adopting a child or helping those who God has called to take such a step is what the gospel is all about.I truly enjoyed this small yet helpful book by Dr. Moore. It definitely a must read and I encourage those who do take the time to read it to look for ways to share the love of God with children who so desperately need help and hope. If your church is not engaged in helping the innocent, speak with your pastor and church leaders about ways to get involved as a local community of believers. If God has not called you to adopt, then reach out financially in whatever way possible to help those who are setting aside the comforts of life to help a child. God has called all of us to this mission and Dr. Moore has provided a call to action. Will you answer the call? I trust you will and those who read this book will be motivated to do so.I received this book for free from Crossway Books and the opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255 : “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising.”

Russell Moore Shows Us That Joseph Was an Adoptive Father reviewed by Bill Pence of CoramDeotheBlog.com By Bill Pence This short book was first published as Chapter 3: “Joseph of Nazareth vs. Planned Parenthood: What’s at Stake When We Talk about Adoption,” in Moore’s 2009 book Adopted for Life.Moore asks what it would mean if our churches and families were known as the people who adopt babies—and toddlers, and children, and teenagers. What if Christians were known, once again, as the people who take in orphans, and make of them beloved sons and daughters? He writes that all of us have a stake in the adoption issue, because Jesus does.Moore tells us that there’s rarely much room in the inn of the contemporary Christian imagination for Joseph, especially among conservative Protestants like him. But, he tells us, Joseph serves as a model to follow as we see what’s at stake in the issue of adoption because Joseph, after all, is an adoptive father. Moore writes that as Joseph images the Father of the fatherless, he shows us how adoption is more than charity. It’s spiritual warfare.Moore writes that the demonic powers (Pharaoh, Herod and Planned Parenthood) hate babies because they hate Jesus. When they destroy “the least of these” (Matt. 25:40, 45), the most vulnerable among us, they’re destroying a picture of Jesus himself, of the child delivered by the woman who crushes their head (Gen. 3:15). Moore states, it’s easy to shake our heads in disgust at Pharaoh or Herod or Planned Parenthood. But it’s not as easy to see the ways in which we ourselves often have a Pharaoh-like view of children rather than a Christlike view.Moore writes that the protection of children isn’t charity, its spiritual warfare. He states that all of us, as followers of Christ, are called to protect children.Moore writes that an orphan-protecting adoption culture is countercultural—and always has been. An adoption culture in our churches advances the cause of life, even beyond the individual lives of the children adopted. Imagine if Christian churches were known as the places where unwanted babies become beloved children.Moore states that if we follow in the way of Joseph, perhaps we’ll see a battalion of new church-sponsored clinics for pregnant women in crisis situations. Perhaps we’ll train God-called women in our churches to counsel confused young women, counselors able and equipped to provide an alternative to the slick but deadly propaganda of the abortion profiteers. If we walk in Joseph’s way, perhaps we’ll see pastors who will prophetically call on Christians to oppose the death culture by rescuing babies and children through adoption.Moore writes that although Planned Parenthood thinks “Choice on Earth” is the message of Christmas, we know better, or at least we should. He encourages us to follow the footsteps of the other man at the manger, the quiet one.

Not the best in the series By Lynnamint I hate to give anything associated with "The Little Prince" less than 5 stars, but this was an odd choice of moments for me. I realize this is a book for small babies and children, but they could have picked more poignant language and pictures. The chores are not associated with anything meaningful. I purchased all the other boardbooks in this series, but I actually left this one at the bookstore the first time I saw it. Just okay. If you are not buying the whole series, get the other ones instead of this one.

If you read “the Harbinger” and "Mystery of the Shemitah" then you need to also read this book! "God's Answer" is a MUST READ for every christian, especially pastors! It’s also a must read for our nation’s LEADERS in DC! It shows why America is in such a mess it is and just how bad things can really get..it’s a serious WAKE UP CALL folks! But thankfully it’s also a message of GREAT HOPE because it shows the way to really and truly turn America back to God. It's very biblical, prophetic, and detailed solution and plan we should pay attention to! I found it to be a refreshing balanced book that communicates both the severity and goodness of God.This book also has a lot of biblical and prophetic insight. It answers questions like "Are all natural disasters the judgment of God?", how does God get a nation's attention, and how the third great awakening will begin! It also gives an interesting end-time perspective. I could hardly put it down! I’m buying one for my pastor too!

By Jonathan this book is a well rounded exhortation to have believers grow up and take on the calling of Christ to be sons and daughters empowered by the life we are supposed to be living. I need to be living a life of evidence that something is different and doing it in such a way as to cause others to rethink their belief and actions.

In Embracing the Seasons Gunilla Norris shares her soulful and thought-provoking observations of a year lived in the countryside and reflects on the abundance and meaning of nature and its cycles of renewal. This journey through the seasons has been shaped by being home in an old farmhouse with its large garden of flowers, vegetables, brook and pond, surrounded by a country landscape of stone walls, woodlots, and living creatures. The book begins in the spring, with the birds singing in the darkness of dawn and the buds knobbing up on the trees and bushes, and then circles through the warmth and richness of summer, the golden bounty of fall, and the dark serenity of winter. Until it is spring once more.Embracing the Seasons opens our eyes to ordinary wonders and not so ordinary meanings in the small events and encounters of the everyday. By illuminating the joy and beauty of daily life, it is an invitation to find and honor the sacred in the place we call home.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Enjoyable on Many Levels By Story Circle Book Reviews I enjoyed Embracing the Seasons: Memories of a Country Garden on a number of levels. First, Gunilla Norris' descriptions of her environment and the creatures she shared it with enchanted me as a writer and avid reader. She has a lovely, flowing way with words that picks you up and brings you along gently on the current of her story.Secondly, as a gardener and lover of the outdoors, I found Norris' acute observation of things in the natural world to be thoughtful and descriptive. The connections she makes between what she observes outside and her inner, spiritual life are never forced. I appreciated the fact that she had to think about these connections, and even ask herself, "What can I learn from this thing?" This, to me, adds authenticity to her essays, and brings her to life as a real, fallible, human being, not some enlightened guru out of reach of real people. Her insights are not in any way contrived, but flow naturally from the starting point of whatever she happens to be observing.Answers only come when we ask the questions, and Norris demonstrates this powerfully in the essays and poems she shares with us in this book. Again and again, I found myself asking, "What can I learn from her experience and insight?" and again and again I realized that I was indeed learning, and enjoying every minute of it.by Khadijah A.for Story Circle Book Reviewsreviewing books by, for, and about women

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. uplifting lyrical seasonal reflections By A Customer Embracing the Seasons: Memories of a Country GardenGunilla NorrisBlueBridge, Jun 9 2015, $14.95[...]ISBN: 9781629190051At Gunilla Norris’ farmhouse, frogs announce in song the arrival of spring. Song birds join nature’s choir celebrating the rebirthing of life with Joy to the World (Three Dog Night). Moving forward through the months, the peonies need stakes to support them as they show that spring has given way to summer. Displaying the warmth of this season vines grow, cicadas click and black snakes crawl until the months culminate in a harvest. Fall takes center stage with colorful leaves depicting this quarter that climaxes with Thanksgiving. Finally dark winter brings cold and stormy weather yet also the beauty of the sculptured naked ash trees. Late in the season the thaw begins and wildflowers start to bloom reminding readers that the frogs and birds will sing their song of spring.Gunilla Norris celebrates life through the cycle of the seasons in this poetic memoir; as the author offers an uplifting look at the joys she found in nature’s constant changes at a country garden. Though similar in philosophy and method to Ms. Norris’ A Mystic Garden, fans of lyrical meditations will appreciate reflections on Embracing the Seasons and do likewise with our personal fond contemplations (like skiing and sleighing down the hills of the Bronx in the 1960s winters).Harriet Klausner

Knowles Gunilla Norris' poetic unfolding of the close and mundane details of the annual evolution of the gardens is gentle, thoughtful and profound. She opens a new, deeper way of experiencing reality! This is a wonderful read!

The Notes Upon The New Testament is considered to be one of John Wesley's principal works, and its readability, influence and popularity has remained since the time of its publication until today. First printed in 1755 by William Bowyer, John Wesley's Notes Upon The New Testament were entirely his own work, written during a period of illness which forced him to abandon his usual routine of travel and preaching. He would write from 5 am - 9 pm every day, unless he was riding, eating, or taking his personal devotion time (5 - 6 pm each evening). Charles Wesley assisted in some ways, including his translations of the gospels and in other unspecified ways. Wesley cites his influences for the New Testament Notes as the Gnomon Novi Testamenti of Bengel, the Paraphrase of Dr Guyse, the Theological Lectures of Dr Heylin and the Family Expositor of Dr Doddridge. The fourth and fifth editions of the Notes contained corrections by John & Charles Wesley and others.

Hall I think this commentary was written in 1754 so some of the language is old English but understandable. The commentary of the first chapter of Romans left me a little puzzled as to the true meaning of the chapter; but after that it was clear what was being taught in the rest of the book of Romans. I also use a modern commentary on Romans but find this one more meaningful.

The sequel to TRUST ME, I’M LYING Staying out of trouble isn’t possible for Julep Dupree. She has managed not to get kicked out of her private school, even though everyone knows she’s responsible for taking down a human-trafficking mob boss—and getting St. Agatha’s golden-boy Tyler killed in the process. Running cons holds her guilty conscience at bay, but unfortunately, someone wants Julep to pay for her mistakes . . . with her life. Against her better judgment, Julep takes a shady case that requires her to infiltrate a secretive organization that her long-gone mother and the enigmatic blue fairy may be connected to. Her best friend, Sam, isn’t around to stop her, and Dani, her one true confidante, happens to be a nineteen-year-old mob enforcer whose moral compass is as questionable as Julep’s. But there’s not much time to worry about right and wrong—or to save your falling heart—when there’s a contract on your head. Murders, heists, secrets and lies, hit men and hidden identities . . . If Julep doesn’t watch her back, it’s her funeral. No lie.

Trust Me, I'm Trouble, by Mary Elizabeth Summer

From School Library Journal Gr 8 Up—In this sequel to Trust Me, I'm Lying (Delacorte, 2014), Julep Dupree, the skilled teenage grifter, is back. Still mourning the loss of her friend Tyler and her father's incarceration, Julep is living with the FBI agent tasked with arresting her last year, and fighting for her own life as she tries to uncover who wants her dead badly enough to hire a hit man. And it is not just her living situation that has changed. Sam, best friend extraordinaire, has transferred to a private school and is ignoring every text and email Julep sends; Lily, a transfer student to St. Agatha's, has joined their motley investigative crew; and Sister Rasmussen, St. Agatha's school president, has taken an unnatural interest in Julep's summer internship assignment. The only constant in her life is Dani, a 19-year-old Ukrainian mob enforcer who has taken it upon herself to play the part of Julep's personal bodyguard. Add to this mix a distraught wife hiring the protagonist to discover her husband's connection to "the blue fairy," which just happens to be a euphemism for Julep's long-lost mother, and readers will be in for an action-packed crime caper. The pace keeps readers wholly involved while successfully delivering a multilayered story line. The heroine continues to evolve as she struggles with her identity within a family, as well as her need to feel loved despite her incredible drive to survive on her own. VERDICT Summer does not disappoint in delivering Julep's second adventure.—Colleen S. Banick, Westport Public Schools, CT

Excerpt. © Reprinted by permission. All rights reserved. 1The Embezzler's WifeIf I could give fledgling con artists one piece of advice, it would be this: tacos.Specifically, Cemitas Puebla tacos. There might be a mark somewhere out there impervious to the fresh Oaxaca cheese and garden-grown papalo, but if there is, I have yet to meet him. The spit-roasted pork, the chorizo and carne asada, the chile guajillo . . . No one says no to tacos. At least, not these tacos. Which is why they are my secret weapon on my toughest cases.Holding a bag of taco heaven, I knock on the back door of our very own windowless 1996 Chevy van and wait for Murphy to let me in. Murphy opens the door, the cord of his headphones stretched to its limit. He doesn’t bother looking at me until he smells the tacos.“You brought me dinner?” he says, eyes lighting up.“Mitts off, Murph. These are for the mark.”Murphy grumbles something under his breath.“Well, if you’d get out of the van and actually, you know, work, the tacos could have been for you.”“The van is an extension of me. I do not leave the van. The van does not leave me.”J.D. Investigations, which is the name Murphy and I finally settled on for our PI firm, purchased the van in March for all of the company’s creeper spying needs. Murphy practically drooled on the bumper when he saw the extended wheelbase. I liked the monstrosity for its diesel engine, the price of gas being what it is. But what sealed it for us was the 1-800-TAXDRMY hand-painted on the side. I’d like to see the curious bystander brave enough to peek in that windshield.“How does Bryn feel about that?” I can already tell you how Bryn, Murphy’s girlfriend for the past seven months, feels about that. Her queen-bee social status tanks any time she gets within a five-foot radius of the van. A type A personality, she is constantly appalled at the grease spots the van leaves wherever Murphy parks it. And her nerd-limit is obliterated every time he brags about the latest gizmo he’s added to it. Or maybe that’s just me.“Bryn loves Bessie almost as much as I do.” Murphy pets the periscope controls on the surveillance dash he spent six weeks installing. It drove me crazy that it took him that long to get the van operational, but he insisted. His love of geek gadgetry is even deeper than Sam’s is. Was. Is.Anyway, tomorrow is the start of the last week of the school year and the van’s been used on only one other job. Which means we’re still working out the kinks.I hop into the back of the van, setting the tacos down on the dash. “A, I seriously doubt that. B, for the last time, we’re not calling it Bessie.”Murphy opens his mouth to argue, but I redirect the conversation before we can go down that road. Again.“Any movement?” I whip off my frayed hoodie and slip a brick-colored polo shirt over my black tank.“Not a blip.” Murphy adjusts a knob. “Maybe this guy’s legit.”“Maybe. But we’ll find out soon enough.”“What are you going to do?”“Tacos.”Murphy snorts. “An insurance scammer pretending to be paralyzed is not going to get out of bed for tacos.”“Well, it’s either that or set his house on fire.”Murphy ponders this. “We could set his house on fire.”“We are not setting his house on fire, Murphy.”I miss Sam. He was more than just my hacker. More than just my partner, even. He was my best friend--the person I relied on to keep me from going off the rails. He should be the one arguing that we’re not setting anyone’s house on fire. It shouldn’t be my job to reel myself in.“Besides.” I slide the temples of my fake glasses over my ears and don a Cemitas Puebla visor I conned the cashier out of. “Tacos always work.”“If you say so,” Murphy says, tapping something on the tablet he’d had custom-built into the dash. “Camera’s aimed at the front door in case you’re right.”“I’m always right.” Well, almost always.I slip out into the dying light, goose bumps prickling my arms in the slight chill of a Windy City evening. Even in May the wind finds a way to make its presence felt. Live here long enough and you start taking the wind for granted. That’s what Tyler used to say. And if anyone had known what the wind was capable of, Tyler had. I shiver thinking of him, of the night he died in front of me. Ghosts don’t haunt people. Guilt does. And on Thursday, I’ll turn all pruny marinating in my guilt when St. Agatha’s hosts a memorial vigil for him.I stuff thoughts of Tyler into the box in my brain marked Do Not Open and walk up to the one-story bungalow with drooping carport where the alleged insurance scammer lives. If I can prove he’s faking, I get a nice, fat check from the insurance investigator who contracted me.I ring the bell. The intercom speaker above the doorbell crackles. “Hello?”“Taco delivery!” I say brightly, smiling for the tiny camera that the mark had installed with the intercom.I have to hand it to the guy. He’s not taking any chances with his potential six-figure insurance payout. I’d feel bad about calling out another con, but this guy’s just a dabbler. He’s not really my people. He is thorough, though. Installing the intercom was a nice touch. Most insurance scammers fake their injuries for their doctor’s visits and court appearances and then resume waterskiing the next weekend. This guy is maintaining character even when he thinks nobody’s looking, which makes him a tough nut to crack.Or he could be legitimately injured, I suppose. The tacos will tell us for sure.“I didn’t order anything,” he says.“Really?” I pause, pretending to check an address on my phone. “The order says 675 North Hamlin Avenue.”“Must have been a typo,” he says, sounding grumpy.“Man, my boss is going to kill me,” I say, scrolling through my phone with my thumb. “This is the second time this week. And it’s a prepay.”I pretend to fret, weighing my options. “I don’t suppose you want these tacos? I can’t take them back. Cemitas Puebla has a strict policy about taco delivery time.”“Cemitas Puebla?” the mark says.I can almost hear the pros-and-cons debate going on in his head. Risk detection. But tacos . . . I’ve got him interested. Time for the shutout.“I’ve got to get back. Thanks anyway, mister.”“Wait!” he says. “Is it the Orientales?”“Yes, and the Gov. Precioso.”A few seconds of silence follow, and then the door opens. The mark--a skinny man in his midforties with a receding hairline and an honest face--stands in the doorway, fully erect and lacking any mechanical aid. Bessie’s camera had better be getting this, or Murphy will be on paperwork duty for the next three months.“Extra cheese?” he says.“Salsa on the side,” I say, and hand him the bag.I could have kept the tacos, I guess, but the man is about to lose a five-hundred-thousand-dollar insurance settlement. He deserves a consolation prize.“Thanks,” he says, smiling, as he shuts the door.“No sweat,” I say, more to myself than to him.Five minutes later, I’m climbing into the van’s passenger seat. I toss the visor into the back for Bryn to pick up later and stow in the disguises compartment. She likes to feel useful.“You couldn’t have kept the tacos?” Murphy asks when I fasten my seat belt.“Home, Jeeves,” I say, taking off the glasses.“That’s not as funny as you think it is.”I smile around the pang in my chest. God, I miss Sam.At 10:28 p.m., I stretch back in my office chair, yawning and rubbing my eyes. Murphy left Cafe Ballou with Bryn at eight, but I’d wanted to finish the report to the insurance company investigator before calling it a night. The footage Murphy captured seems clear enough evidence to me, but I learned early on that if I don’t write out my own observations in agonizing detail for the lawyers, I’ll end up on the stand giving testimony. And I seriously never want to see the inside of a courtroom ever again.Julep Dupree, you are under arrest. . . . I’d never seen the inside of the juvenile detention center, thanks to Mike Ramirez, the FBI agent who arrested me. Why he stuck his neck out for me I’ll never know, but he did. And because he and his wife, Angela, took me in, I’ve mostly evaded the travesty that is the foster care system. I have a social worker, Mrs. Fairchild, who I see on a semiregular basis as part of my punishment for getting Tyler killed. That’s not how the judge put it, of course, but that’s how it feels, since Mrs. Fairchild asks me about him all the time. She’s totally missing the point, though. I’m not supposed to forgive myself for what happened to him.My phone buzzes and lights up. Mike.Curfew. Crap.I tap out my standard apology:At work. Sorry. There are few things worse than going from running the streets at will to a ten p.m. curfew. Ten p.m. On a weekend, even.My phone buzzes again:Grounded. This is a game we play. You rly want me stuck in your house with nothing to do?I’d nearly typed at home because it’s shorter, but, well, no. It’s not my home.Buzz.Serious this time.Tap.Suuure.Buzz.1 week. No phone.Good lord. That’s like saying “No coffee.”Tap.Ouch.Buzz.No Dani.Ha. I’d like to see him try to stop her. For real, I’d probably pay admission. Dani is a nineteen-year-old mob enforcer. She does exactly what she wants, and no FBI agent, let alone Mike, is going to get in her way. I’m not even sure she would listen to me. In fact, I know she wouldn’t.Tap.Good luck with that. Now he’s calling me. I sigh and tap the Answer button. “Who is this and why do you keep stalking me?”“Funny,” he says. “I could consider this a violation of your probation, you know.”“Blowing curfew by accident is not grounds for probation violation.”“Blowing curfew repeatedly is good enough grounds to try.”“If you wouldn’t insist on instituting these silly rules, I wouldn’t be forced to break them.”“The point of these ‘silly rules’ is to keep you safe. You know, from vengeance-seeking Ukrainian mobsters.”“Spending years up to your neck in a covert government agency has skyrocketed your paranoia. No one’s conspiring to kill me.”“Yet,” Mike growls. He’s probably referring to himself rather than Petrov, the mob boss I took down last October.“Seriously, Mike, if it were two in the morning, I’d understand. But ten o’clock? Middle schoolers are still out peddling Girl Scout cookies.”Mike echoes my earlier sigh. I can see him in my mind’s eye rubbing his bald boulder of a head in agitation. “I don’t want to babysit you. Believe me, I have better things to do with my time. But I can’t follow you around to keep you out of the crosshairs either. I’m responsible for your safety. The ten o’clock curfew is the best compromise I can make.”None of this is new territory. Since I moved in with him and Angela, we’ve had multiple arguments about my safety. But if Petrov had wanted to make a move to hurt me, he’d have done it by now. I remind Mike of this, but he shrugs it off.“Whether Petrov is out to get you or not, you’d better get your butt back home in the next half hour or I really am grounding you this time.”“All right, all right. I’m leaving now,” I say.“One more thing,” he says. “I’m leaving town for a couple of weeks. I have a bank robbery assignment in New York.”“Bank robbery? Aren’t you in the organized crime division? And anyway, doesn’t New York have its own FBI agents?”He pauses. Just a tiny fraction of a pause no one else would notice. But I notice. “It potentially relates to one of my cases here in Chicago, so I’m going to check it out.”My gut says he’s holding back. “Anything having to do with me?”He chuckles. “It was the pause, wasn’t it? Look, kid, not everything is about you. I’m just worried about leaving you here without somebody to hassle you when you don’t make curfew. I don’t want you to feel alone. I am coming back.”Ugh. I hate it when I’m blindsided by sappy crap. Especially when it’s tough-as-a-tire-iron Mike trying to be sensitive to my abandonment issues. Yes, my mom left me when I was eight. Yes, my dad’s now in prison for the remainder of my high school years. That doesn’t mean I’m going to break down when the closest thing I have to a parental unit is going on a business trip.“Don’t worry about me, G-man. I’ve got this.”“I know,” he says. “Just make sure you keep Angela up to date on where you are.”I hang up and quickly email the insurance scammer report and video to the insurance investigator. I’m pulling on my jacket when the tarnished bell hanging over the door rings.“We’re closed,” I say as a joke, because I assume it’s Dani checking up on me.When there’s no acerbic comment in return, I look up. But it’s not Dani’s black-clad, steel-sharp form standing in the doorway. It’s a woman in her early fifties with chestnut hair and a haggard expression.“Can I help you?” I ask.Instead of answering, she ducks past me to my desk and collapses into the beat-up chair I keep for clients. I sigh and shrug out of my jacket. I’m going to be late, which means I’m going to get another Mike safety lecture. And he might actually ground me this time. Awesome.“Mrs. . . . ?” I say, having noticed the plain gold band on her left ring finger.“Antolini,” she says. The name sounds vaguely familiar, but not enough to raise red flags. “How can I help you, Mrs. Antolini?”She takes a tissue from her floral purse. I wait as patiently as possible while she dabs at her eyes and blows her nose. I never try to comfort weeping clients. For one thing, it drags out the crying. For another, it’s just as likely to cause awkwardness as it is to cure it. Most people prefer I just wait it out.“My husband was arrested a month ago for misappropriation of government funds. He worked for Lodestar. They do informational architecture for several government programs. If he’s convicted, he’ll remain in the maximum-security prison they’re holding him in for the next eighteen years. I can’t find the money he supposedly stole, so I can’t even get him out on bail.”

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. An Immensely Strong Sequel! Definitely recommend! By Marianne Lee (Boricuan Bookworms) Trust Me, I’m Trouble definitely surprised me. This book was ALL ABOUT THE CONS and I ate it all up.I think what pulled me into this book (and kept me there) were the multitudes of red herrings placed almost everywhere in the story. It was a wild ride trying to decipher who was responsible, who did what, and if I should trust what X person said. I definitely loved feeling at the edge of my seat; it was so refreshing.I liked Julep so much more in this book because she’s not as naive as she was in the previous book. Julep has finally come to realise that ignoring problems doesn’t make them go away, and just because you wish that someone is good doesn’t necessarily make it so. Julep here really went above and beyond to show off her grifter skills to me, and I really liked to see her in her natural setting. I think it was wonderful to see how she would trick/influence/manipulate/con people into saying or doing what she wanted. (I honestly love anything that has to do with cons, heists, crimes, etc etc). There’s a romance in this book, but it’s not with who you would you think. The author here gave us the romance we didn’t know we needed! The romantic lead is absolutely perfect for Julep. She understands what Julep’s been through but doesn’t push her or try to take her out of her comfort zone until she’s ready. She’s also closed off (even more so than Julep) so it’s so entertaining to watch these two skirt around each other when everyone else in the room can see they’re totally into each other. (It’s a female-female romance… if you hadn’t realized that already)I like how this book gives a big emphasis on family: both blood relatives, and the ones you choose yourself. Julep’s life is filled with people who genuinely care about her and would go above and beyond, and it was wonderful to see how everyone played a part in Julep’s life. I loved all the relationships that were getting stronger and stronger. The ending… it honestly left me absolutely breathless. I couldn’t believe it ended the way it did, because I NEED ANSWERS!!! I can’t believe we have to wait so long for the next one!Overall, this book definitely DID NOT suffer from middle book syndrome. This book started strong and ended even stronger. I cannot wait to see what else the author has in store for us!An advanced copy was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review

Each one getting better than the last. This review will sound critical, but you don’t know that I would hand deliver these books right to your doorstep so you would have a chance to read these great works! TRUST ME, IM TROUBLE was a book that was hard to get into due to having almost a year between reading TRUST ME, IM LYING and TRUST ME, IM TROUBLE. Yet, as soon as you remember who the characters and exactly how the plot when down in the previous book, then you will have no problem hopping into this great YA thriller.A lot of time Mary Summers makes it feel as if there was too much going on in the plot. It’s not a terribly complex plot, but for the 300 pages it goes by far too fast. It wasn't uncommon for me to have to reread paragraphs to fully comprehend what’s going on, and it doesn't help that occasionally doesn't elaborate on significant events and facts. It happens too quick, making it so much harder for this fan girl brain to process. I also found this a problem in book one, though it improved through TRUST ME, IM TROUBLE.MES writing styles is not one of my favorites to read, she tends to tell than show. It was common enough that I felt that a sentence, or even an entire paragraph needed to be edited drastically or just cut out completely. The voice Summer used in this book did suit Juleps character very well, as it was told in her perspective. I’ll give you credit for that, the voice was done well. The characters Mary Elizabeth Summer creates have always been fascinating, I really wish some of them (Sam) had more page time. She develops her characters with such talent, there wasn’t a single character that didn’t have a back story, a single character that wasn’t paper thin with the depth of their personality. I wanted to read much more about the, I hope book three is much longer to allow for more character development with all these characters. Duke, her dad, her mum, Sister Rasmussen, Lily, Julep, Sam, Murphy, Bryn, Dani, Angela, Mike Ramirez, Victoria Febbi and so much more! Each on plays an important role in it all, it’s amazing how Mary manages all of this.Lesbihonest, it surprised me a bit. It wasn’t very Julep of her. Especially with Dani, who was more of a parental or sisterly figure until this unnecessary romance was thrown in. It felt like the author wanted to add romance that was related to her (MES has a wife, it’s hard not to know when you read the acknowledgements and the authors about me, especially after wanting to just read more!). The romance didn’t suit Julep, let alone the plot. The romance created a distraction from the thrilling story. I'd say go for it, but it’s clear that the romance would ruin their amazing friendship.Julep has lost most of her edgy, emotion free criminal behavior, yet she still acts as if she has it. It’s not who Julep has developed to be. She kept playing the part instead of being the part. In general, Julep has became a tad annoying at moments in TRUST ME, IM TROUBLE. She really needs to sit down and think about who she is and how she should behave to match.Sam was such a cutie. It was clear that he still loves Julep, but how he cares for Julep is so adorable. Through TRUST ME, IM TROUBLE, each one of Sam’s moves are sweet as sugar. HE shows his love again and again for Julep and it hurts that he didn’t have a chance with Tyler and Dani around. I wish I could have a friend just like Sam, especially with that scene on the L, which was it for me. I was beyond the stars with Sam.Plot twists. The 'great' reveal behind Mr. Antolinis numbers was not a surprise as soon as sheAadila indicated she couldn’t beat a code out of brain dead guy in prison. I hate repeating myself, but this is another case where I wished TRUST ME, IM TROUBLE was longer, this is one of the many scenes which were key but only lasted a page or two. There were plenty of plot twists and great reveals, and this one was the only one I could foresee. Mary Summer knew how to surprise and to keep her readers engaged with her mystery. This amazing sequel had me in once I understood what was going on, if you read on soon after another, then you definitely would’ve enjoyed this to the MAX! With the two mysteries going on, there is never a page which you aren’t reading with extreme addiction. Where there is action, Mary Elizabeth Summers holds nothing back. She is the one at the cliff side where you grip onto the edge with your fingers. Summers doesn’t pull you up to safety and comfort with TRUST ME, IM TROUBLE, she pries each finger off one by one until you fall. Sometimes you’ll live, sometimes you’ll end with another wound in your heart. If you read TRUST ME, IM LYING, then wait no more for TRUST ME, IM TROUBLE.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. that is just a sneak peek of how amazing Mary’s writing is By Thebookishcrypt *Copy provided in exchange for an honest review*“If I could give fledgling con artists one piece of advice, it would be this: tacos.”SOLD! (Tacos are my ultimate food weakness) I am now a fledgling con artist, right?Anyway, that is just a sneak peek of how amazing Mary’s writing is. I am obsessed with her story telling skills. Her characters are incredibly realistic and her plots are mind racking. This book was hilarious, suspenseful, action-packed and heart-breaking.I am still in mourning over one of my favorite characters from book 1. Every time Mary mentioned their name, I felt it like a blow to my chest. Just like it felt for Jupep, I am sure. I cried so much over it, it wasn’t pretty. I felt the weight on her shoulders on mine as well.I loved the diverse romance in this story. It was beautiful and heart-warming.I got a little mad at Mary while reading this. Only because I kept promising myself I would go to sleep after I finished a chapter, and if you know how she ends her chapters, it was impossible. So, I had to resort to going to sleep in the middle of a chapter.I guessed who was behind the contract on Julep immediately and the other shady characters. I think I guessed the other characters because Mary succeeded in making me double-guess everybody. And I mean EVERYBODY.Also, that cliffhanger is killing me. I need the next book in my hands soon!“Ghosts don’t haunt people. Guilt does.”

From A to Zay: The Indie Guide to Music Production is years of successes and failures, and how you can duplicate the things I did right and avoid the things I did wrong. Let's get ready to go down the list of everything you need to know about music production (and perhaps life) from A to Zay. - Xavier Dotson The whole key to Xavier's success, besides the obvious (God, faith, family) has always been his consistency to keep creating, whether that's making beats, writing hooks, scoring films or coming up with ideas to further promote something he is involved in. Most people want the fame and the trappings of success without sacrificing anything. In this business or in anything you do, there's a price to pay to get what you want. Whatever is easy usually doesn't have a whole lot of value to it; anybody can have it.   The key is to take the smallest of action steps every day and God will put the right people and situations in your life to get you to your destiny. Let me repeat that. Work on something every single day that will bring you closer to your goal. Stop wondering what you can do and start acting.   Start acting like the person you want to be and you will become that person.   My story is about having a vision. My hope is for you to discover your gifts, focus on them and work until something magical happens. Vision, writing it down and working hard and letting God do the rest. His name alone sets the tone for who he is, what he does and the magnitude of his skill set. Super-producer Xavier "Zaytoven" Dotson copped his name from the German composer and pianist Ludwig van Beethoven because of the many similarities the two musicians share. Both were born in Germany, both mastered the organ and piano at a young age, both boast a genuine interest in music and most notably possessed the same good foresight to align themselves with key people who could help further their careers. For Beethoven it was the dignitaries of Vienna, for Zaytoven it was Gucci Mane, king of the streets of east Atlanta.
