The belief is cascaded down from thousands of years ago. Specific series of behaviors and practices called Rituals and the law of attraction is best described in the book. I found interest in the chapter wiccan practice. This is really an interesting book.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Great book of learning Wicca. By Brie Williams Wicca is another first for me. I never knew anything about this before, although I’ve heard about witchcraft and magic spells but nothing as detailed as this. Alright, it is a form of religious witchcraft and I appreciate it greatly. I was skeptical about this belief before but this book is too good to make me learn and understand about its nature or religion. The book covers the origins and the history of the Wicca, the different traditions, practices and rituals. Wiccans believe that magic is a law of nature and is in no way supernatural. That is worth contemplating and I guess I am already at the point of agreeing with it. This is a good read and a worthwhile knowledge worth sharing.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Worth the price! By Amazon Customer This book is thorough! It covers everything about wicca and its practices, its believe systems and traditions, its origins, amazing history and how it evolves through time. The most interesting part of this book is learning the rituals and the spells with clear instructions on proper executing.

Atheism - A Wonderful World Without Religion

Throughout human history religions have been a staggeringly powerful force in the hearts and minds of their adherents and in society as a whole. It has moved men and women to inspiring acts of bravery and spurred the creation of some of the most sublime works of art, and arguably has been pivotal in the creation of stable societies and the social order we see today. At the same time, though, it has also been responsible for some of the most heinous atrocities ever committed and has imposed many arbitrary limits on individuals that serve as a massive detriment to their well-being. As time has marched on, we have developed new systems for making sense of the natural world and for living together harmoniously. The barriers that separate us have eroded and we have built alternatives to the systems that religion has used to maintain order. This book aims to look at some of the notions that atheists hold. The first two chapters are an exploration into the factual inadequacies of faith. The third will touch on the social evils of religion and their deep rooting in the very nature and psychology of faith itself. The last three chapters will address the alternative, non-theistic solutions to three separate problems previously solved by faith. It is by no means exhaustive, and so at the end is a further reading list of books which go into much deeper detail on the issues raised herein. Ultimately, this book is written so that anyone on any point on the scale of faith, from the most sincere believer, to the strongest antitheist, and anyone in between can understand even just a little better the arguments atheists put on the table.

Here's a preview of the contents

  • Why reject the supernatural?
  • Our “special place” in the universe
  • The harm caused by faith
  • Morality without God
  • Facing mortality

Atheism: A Wonderful World Without Religion (Atheist Book, No God, Rationalism), by Tom Miles

Review "A very well explained set of foundational arguments as to why a religious world view is no longer compatible with the ability to thrive and prosper in a world where it went head to head with science and lost. Tom covers a lot of ground, with each subject properly organized in separate chapters, yet keeping the work short, concise and easy to digest. Highly recommended." -D. Banici"I bought this book to learn about atheism, and I got exactly what I was looking for. This book goes into full detail about how a true atheist thinks. It describes their beliefs, and the reasoning behind why they believe the way they do. It was truly a fascinating read for me, and it really helped me to better understand those that do not believe in a God." -Albert Gonzalez

I do think this book has good points, however it just seemed too short By nm2012 I do think this book has good points, however it just seemed too short, and if you have read Richard Dawkins or Christopher Hitchens books, there is nothing new in this book to add to that, and there are no citation, and minor typos. But OK for casual readers who want to read something quickly on Atheism.

Meh its ok By Amazon Customer i liked the basic story, but there were a few things that werent amazing. like the quick battle with the Eye of Cthulhu it wasnt very discriptive just "and then suddenly this huge demon eye comes. i attacked it with the shurikens but it barely did any damage. we battled into the morning, and then with a last ninja star it fell" i just feel that could have been described differently. anyway i'll give it three stars two because i like it ok and one because terraria rocks!

By ecfc Although I haven't finished reading the book entirely yet, however I have wept my way through much of it as I feel my soul so stirred and hungry to taste and see what they experienced in Brownsville in my own life and church today! The stories and truths are so plain, obvious, and life giving that if every believer in america would simply read this book, take it to heart, and begin to follow it to its own logical conclusion then revival would sweep america and beyond. Both writers present similar truths from different angles (one an amazing teacher the other a true pastor) and it is nice to have this topic balanced in that way. I am so glad that Michael Brown and John Kilpatrick have written on this very topic (true heaven sent revival) at this very hour what else can be said in america? Its not the time to sleep, its not the time for political activism, its the time to get ahold of God! To lay on our faces, cry out, weep over our sins and the sins of the church (not just those of the nation) and ask! ask! ask for a touch from heaven that will shake us to our very foundations and bring a true revival of Biblical Christianity to america and beyond. I love the stories from the Brownsville revival. towards the beginning of the book Michael Brown shares an entry to his diary during the Brownsville revival. The book is worth getting just for that short section! I wept, cried out and pleaded with God come down in the same way again. Pastor Kilpatrick shares about his initiation into going deeper with God and what lead to the beginnings of the revival, including his own personal desperation. One account he shares of an angelic visitation he experienced in a prayer meeting has stayed with me for days. Do we even believe this stuff anymore? There was a time in my life I constantly fasted and prayed and cried out for God to come near, to do miracles, signs, wonders, let me see angels! Though I haven't yet seen angels (and maybe never well, thats really not the point) but it has begun to stir up in me once again the same hunger I had during that season to see all God has including angels if that be in his plan for me! Why not? the Bible is a book full of such stuff! Oh God for the days of true, supernatural, Spirit Filled and Spirit Led Christianity again. Thank you to both Pastor Kilpatrick and Michael Brown for taking the time to write this book and share these stories and your hearts so that another generation of believers can get on the right track for what we as a church should really be focusing on, seeking for and going after: a true heaven sent visitation (better yet a true reformation which is what much of the church really needs nowadays) from God. The american church is full of hyper-grace, easy believeism, and megachurch models that have done much to completely destroy the root and foundation of true Christianity as the jackals slowly destroyed the walls in the book of Jeremiah (a passage referring to the false prophesies of the false prophets and the way it destroyed the nation one step at a time). Thankfully books like this if read and taken to heart can do much to help restore our walls, restore us to our roots, cut through the fluff and get back to a place where we really get ahold of God and his true word. Not the chaff, but the wheat. Please Authors write and speak more on this topic! we need revival! we need personal, corporate, national reformation of spirit soul and body and a return to the manifest presence and glory of God in our lives, churches and ministries. God forbid that all the younger generation knows are melodramatic "grace" quotes from mega-church happy pastors and knows nothing of repentance, the fear of God, the truth of Gods word true holiness and radical visitation such as happened in the great awakenings and even in Brownsville. I encourage everyone to get this book and read it is soon as you can. Let it speak to you and impart to you and revolutionize your lives! Thankfully though I live in Jakarta, Indonesia I was able to get the book as soon as it was released through kindle! God bless the authors and all the readers of this timely book!

It gives key insight into what true Revival is and is not. I appreciated the rawness and honesty from the authors about the state of the church and how we can get back to experiencing God's glory working in our lives. Dr. Brown pulls no punches on the state of the church, and rightly so.If the Lord is calling you to a deeper relationship with Him, or if you are wondering how to maintain personal revival in your life, then this is the book for you. My copy has been marked up from cover to cover. These men are the real deal!

Blake Larry Sparks skillfully teams up with authors Dr. Michael L. Brown and apostolic leader John Kilpatrick to adapt and apply the stories, insights and principles gleaned from their writings to produce “The Fire That Never Stops: Keys for Sustaining Personal Revival.”After reading the forward by Jack Hayford and the endorsements of a number of international Christian leaders I knew I was in for a rich reading experience. I was not disappointed. This is a remarkable work on the history of revival over the last 100 years and its impact on the American Church. The authors have captured the passion of personal renewal by applying spiritual lessons learned from the insights of revivalists and visionaries, including: Charles Wesley, Charles Finney, William Booth, George Whitfield Leonard Ravenhill, Vance Havner, A. W. Tozer, and D. L. Moody.Although much of the book is uniquely Pentecostal and Charismatic in appeal Christians from mainline denominations, and evangelicals will benefit from these examples of the spiritual awakenings led by these men.A unique feature embraced by the authors of this book is a respect for the dramatic conversions, conviction of sin, tears of repentance, and uncontrolled emotion manifest by people smitten by the Holy Spirit as they received, deliverance, healing, and salvation during these services. The resultant agonies and commotions were accepted as a natural part of the “outpouring of the Holy Spirit” in the revival setting. The authors are genuine and passionate in their writing; they are expressive, and inspiring. The work is carefully researched and well documented.“The Fire That Never Stops: Keys for Sustaining Personal Revival” is a book for anyone hungering for more of Jesus, His power, His strength, and desirous of living a Spirit filled life.A complimentary copy of this book was provided for review purposes. The opinions expressed are my own.

Siddhartha is a 1922 novel by Hermann Hesse that deals with the spiritual journey of self-discovery of a man named Siddhartha during the time of the Gautama Buddha. The book, Hesse's ninth novel, was written in German, in a simple, lyrical style. It was published in the U.S. in 1951 and became influential during the 1960s. Hesse dedicated Siddhartha to Romain Rolland and Wilhelm Gundert. The word Siddhartha is made up of two words in the Sanskrit language, siddha (achieved) + artha (what was searched for), which together means "he who has found meaning (of existence)" or "he who has attained his goals". In fact, the Buddha's own name, before his renunciation, was Siddhartha Gautama, Prince of Kapilvastu. In this book, the Buddha is referred to as "Gotama".

Siddhartha, by Hermann Hesse

Amazon.com Review In the shade of a banyan tree, a grizzled ferryman sits listening to the river. Some say he's a sage. He was once a wandering shramana and, briefly, like thousands of others, he followed Gotama the Buddha, enraptured by his sermons. But this man, Siddhartha, was not a follower of any but his own soul. Born the son of a Brahmin, Siddhartha was blessed in appearance, intelligence, and charisma. In order to find meaning in life, he discarded his promising future for the life of a wandering ascetic. Still, true happiness evaded him. Then a life of pleasure and titillation merely eroded away his spiritual gains until he was just like all the other "child people," dragged around by his desires. Like Hermann Hesse's other creations of struggling young men, Siddhartha has a good dose of European angst and stubborn individualism. His final epiphany challenges both the Buddhist and the Hindu ideals of enlightenment. Neither a practitioner nor a devotee, neither meditating nor reciting, Siddhartha comes to blend in with the world, resonating with the rhythms of nature, bending the reader's ear down to hear answers from the river. In this translation Sherab Chodzin Kohn captures the slow, spare lyricism of Siddhartha's search, putting her version on par with Hilda Rosner's standard edition. --Brian Bruya

From Library Journal Siddhartha's life takes him on a journey toward enlightenment. Afire with youthful idealism, the Brahmin joins a group of ascetics, fasting and living without possessions. Meeting Gotama the Buddha, he comes to feel this is not the right path, though he also declines joining the Buddha's followers. He reenters the world, hoping to learn of his own nature, but instead slips gradually into hedonism and materialism. Surfeited and disgusted, he flees from his possessions to become a ferryman's apprentice, learning what lessons he can from the river itself. Herman Hesse's 1922 Bildungsroman parallels the life of Buddha and seems to argue that lessons of this sort cannot be taught but come from one's own struggle to find truth. Noted actor Derek Jacobi interprets this material wonderfully, and the package, despite abridging a Nobel prize winner's prose, can be highly recommended.AJohn Hiett, Iowa City P.L.Copyright 1998 Reed Business Information, Inc.

88 of 88 people found the following review helpful. new rendition of timeless tale By Joseph H. Hartmann Beautifully translated, evoking the majesty in the simple story of a man in his lifelong journey towards the attainment of Enlightenment. Melodic in its tone but true to the original German Susan Bernofsky's translation has set a new standard among the various English translations currently available. As many times as I have read and enjoyed Siddhartha over the years (about 10 or so readings) never have I enjoyed a translation as much as Ms. Bernofsky's - a truly remarkable effort.

A Mystical Look at a Universal Problem By A Customer Set in India, Siddhartha is subtitled an "Indic Poetic Work" and clearly it does owe much to both Buddhism and Hinduism, however the philosophy embodied in Siddhartha is both unique and quite complex, despite the lyrically beautiful simplicity of the plot.Siddhartha is one of the names of the historical Gautama and while the life of Hesse's character resembles that of his historical counterpart to some extent, Siddhartha is by no means a fictional life of Buddha and his teachings.Siddhartha is divided into two parts of four and eight chapters, something some have interpreted as an illustration of Buddhism's Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path to Enlightenment.Elements of Hinduism can also be found in Siddhartha. Some critics maintain that Hesse was influenced largely by the Bhagavad Gita when he wrote the book and that his protagonist was groping his way along a path outlined in that text. Certainly the central problems of Siddhartha and the Gita are similar: how can the protagonist attain a state of happiness and serenity by means of a long and arduous path?Hesse's protagonist, however, seeks his own personal path to fulfillment, not someone else's. It is one of trial and error and he is only subconsciously aware of its nature. Although many see Siddhartha's quest as embodying the ideals of Buddhism, Siddhartha objects to the negative aspects of Gautama's teaching. He rejects Gautama's model for himself and he rejects Buddhism; Siddhartha insists upon the right to choose his own path to fulfillment. The primary theme of Siddhartha is the individual's difficult and lonely search for self-fulfillment. Both the means used by the hero in his quest and the nature of his fulfillment are of prime importance and reflect recurring themes that thread their way through all of Hesse's work.Although Siddhartha listens with great respect to the words of Buddha and does not reject Buddhism as being right for others, he, himself, does not become Buddha's disciple, but decides to pursue his goal through his own effort, not by following a teacher. As in Demian, Nietzsche's influence is apparent; the reader is strongly reminded of Nietzsche's Zarathustra who exhorts his listeners not to follow him, but to excel themselves.Siddhartha's sense of fulfillment is a mystical one and cannot be defined with precision. In this respect, it resembles the Nirvana of Buddhism. The most important aspect of Siddhartha's growing awareness, however, is an unselfish and undirected love. The division of the world into the two opposing poles of masculine and feminine is another common theme in Hesse's writings. The Father World, or masculine, is dominated by the intellect, reason, spirit, stability and discipline; the Mother Word, or feminine, by emotion, love, fertility, birth, death, fluidity, nature and the senses. While this symbolism is more pronounced in other works, such as Demian and The Glass Bead Game, it is also present and consistently developed in Siddhartha.Siddhartha's position vis-a-vis the two worlds changes during the course of the novel. At times, he seems to embrace one world more than the other; at other times he unites the virtues of each. Two symbolic elements thread their way through Siddhartha; that of the river and that of a smile. Suggestive of fluidity as well as the paradoxical union of permanence and flux, the river is an age-old symbol of eternity and spiritual communion.A second important symbol in Siddhartha is that of the smile. The characters in the story who attain a final state of complete serenity are each characterized by a beautiful smile reflecting a peaceful and harmonious state of being. Each of these symbols is associated with Siddhartha at key junctures in his quest.Siddhartha is written in an extremely simple style, in keeping with the inherent simplicity of the plot, theme and general tone of the book. The syntax is uncomplicated and except for a few technical terms from Indian philosophy, the vocabulary is straightforward. Frequent use is made of leitmotifs, parallelism and repetition and, in the original German, the language is rhythmic and lyrical, reminiscent of a poetic religious text with a definite meditative quality.Siddhartha is told by an omniscient third person narrator with frequent direct and indirect quotations of the words and thoughts of various characters, especially Siddhartha. The narrator, almost invariably, looks at things from Siddhartha's perspective, and even when other characters are discussed or quoted, it is always to shed light on Siddhartha, himself.A mystical and lyrical book, Siddhartha is a beautiful story of a truly personal quest towards the self-fulfillment we all must strive to attain.

All Is Connected By Donald Mitchell Siddhartha is that most unusual of all stories -- one that follows a character throughout most of his life . . . and describes that life in terms of a spiritual journey. For those who are ready to think about what their spiritual journey can be, Siddhartha will be a revelation. For those who are not yet looking for "enlightenment," the book will seem pecular, odd, and out-of-joint. That's because Hesse was presenting a mystery story, also, for each reader to solve for herself or himself. The mystery is simply to unravel the meaning of life.As the son of a Brahmin, Siddhartha would naturally have enjoyed access to all of the finest lessons and things of life. Knowing of his natural superiority in many ways, he becomes disenchanted with teachers and his companions. In a burst of independence, he insists on being allowed to leave home to become a wandering Shramana (or Samana, depending on which translation you read). After three years or so, he tires of this as well. Near the end of that part of his life, Siddharta meets Gotama, the Buddha, and admires him greatly. But Siddharta continues to feel that teachers cannot convey the wisdom of what they know. Words are too fragile a vessel for that purpose. He sees a beautiful courtesan and asks her to teach him about love. Thus, Siddhartha begins his third quest for meaning by embracing the ordinary life that most people experience. Eventually, disgusted by this (and he does behave disgustingly), he tires of life. Then, he suddenly reconnects with the Universe, and decides to become a ferryman and learn from the river. In this fourth stage of his life, he comes to develop the wisdom to match the knowledge that direct experiences of the "good" and the "sensual" life have provided to him.Few will find Siddhartha to be an attractive character until near the end of the book. Hesse is trying to portray his path towards balance and understanding by emphasizing Siddhartha's weaknesses and errors. But, these are mostly errors that all people fall into. Hesse wants us to see that we make too much of any given moment or event. The "all" in a timeless sense is what we should seek for. There is a wonderful description of what a rock is near the end of the book that is well worth reading, even if you get nothing out of the rest of the story. The "mystery" of what Gotima experiences when he kisses Siddhartha's forehead will provide many interesting questions for each reader to consider.I recommend that you both listen to this book on tape and read it. Hesse's approach to learning is for us to observe and feel. You will do more of that while listening than by simply reading. I was able to find an unabridged audio tape in our library for my listening. I encourage you to go with an unabridged tape as well. You will get more out of Siddhartha that way. I read the Hilda Rosner translation, and liked it very much. After you finish listening to and reading the book, I suggest that you think about what you have not yet experienced that would help you get a better sense of life. If you have tried to be a secular person, you could try being a spiritual one. If you have focused on being a parent, you could focus on being a sibling. If you have focused on making money, you could pay attention to giving away your time. And so on. But in each case, give yourself more opportunities to experience and learn from nature. That is Hesse's real message here.Ommmm

The Lankavatara Sutra draws upon the concepts and doctrines of Yogacara and Buddha-nature. The most important doctrine issuing from the Lankavatara Sutra is that of the primacy of consciousness (Skt. vijñana) and the teaching of consciousness as the only reality. In the sutra, the Buddha asserts that all the objects of the world, and the names and forms of experience, are merely manifestations of the mind: On the contrary my teaching is based upon the recognition that the objective world, like a vision, is a manifestation of the mind itself; it teaches the cessation of ignorance, desire, deed and causality; it teaches the cessation of suffering that arises from the discrimination of the triple world. Because the world is seen as being "mind-only" or "consciousness-only", all phenomena are void, empty of self (atman) and illusory: There are four things by the fulfilling of which an earnest disciple may gain self-realisation of Noble Wisdom and become a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva: First, he must have a clear understanding that all things are only manifestations of the mind itself; second, he must discard the notion of birth, abiding and disappearance; third, he must clearly understand the egolessness of both things and persons... As to the first; he must recognise and be fully convinced that this triple world is nothing but a complex manifestation of one's mental activities; that it is devoid of selfness and its belongings; that there are no strivings, no comings, no goings. He must recognise and accept the fact that this triple world is manifested and imagined as real only under the influence of habit-energy that has been accumulated since the beginningless past by reason of memory, false-imagination, false-reasoning, and attachments to the multiplicities of objects and reactions in close relationship and in conformity to ideas of body-property-and-abode. As to the second; he must recognise and be convinced that all things are to be regarded as forms seen in a vision and a dream, empty of substance, un-born and without self-nature; that all things exist only by reason of a complicated network of causation... As to the third; he must recognise and patiently accept the fact that his own mind and personality is also mind-constructed, that it is empty of substance, unborn and egoless.

38 of 50 people found the following review helpful. writing without a writer By Ren Zai This Lankavatara is for those who are sincere & brave of heart. This is a sutra to be experienced in our imagined state of being. There have been countless people who have reached the core experience of the Mahayana practices from this Lankavatara sutra. If you would like to set cross-legged in the dreams of Buddhas then set aside some moments in your life have a cup of tea and get ready for a heady experiencal ride.In reference to the 1 star review. It is advisable to ignore this review by the reviewer called "youraveragemahayanist". The Lankavatara is to be experience in the very core of consciousness not words to be simply reviewed by someone who may enjoy the externalistic view of scholastic philosophies. The reviewers belief that these concepts are arcane are simply his/her inability to experience something beyond discriminating concepts like modern. It is to be asked, is there really an individual concept known as modern separate from the truth of nothing separate? Where is this past, future, and or present to be found "youraveragemahayanist"? Is there really a finger pointing to the moon? Look deeper and enjoy! As you read D. T. Susuki translation it is easy to understand that Susuki was a layman/monk who was not separate from the experience of the Lankavatare itself. The Lankavatara should become one of the top priority readings for those sincere bodhisattvas practicing in these illusory times where ignorance is swift to point us away from fulfilling our path's vows. Remember the path is neither easy nor difficult. Read the word and let go of them for the experience they point too.renzai@lvcm.com

I've been reading his translations of Buddhist texts for decades, and they are as clear as is possible to those of us who don't speak or read the original languages and aren't enlightened. This text was crucial to the development of Zen. Read it along with Red Pine's translation and commentary, and D.T. Suzuki's Studies in the Lankavatara Sutra.

"“Love is my grounding,” says Becca Stevens. “It provides the axioms that inform and govern what I do. First is that love is the most powerful source for social change in the world. Second is that love heals. I’m not called to change the world. I am called to love it.” “All spiritual paths can be walked more gracefully by avoiding the pitfalls of disillusionment and not getting distracted by the bright lights of ego that have led countless priests far afield. Following simple road signs like courage, humility, forgiveness, compassion, and faithfulness that others have put at the crossroads for me has made the work possible and left me grateful. I want to pass along through these letters a tradition of a priesthood that is grounded in the idea that love heals and healing is the central-most sacrament of the church.”"

There I learned to live simply, and walk humbly. Becca Stevens always has a way of sending comfort to someone who has walked close to her, or a pilgrim far away. I know as I have been one of the lucky to have known her. Her words ring with authenticity and sacred breath. I will always be grateful and look forward to more words of wisdom and faith. Like a friend writing you letters of hope and love. Also, such a real life person felt between these pages. Thank you, Emily M.

By Terri Ramsey Beavers I got this book to put on my grand daughters Kindle Fire HDX. She looses interest after so long but this book was the perfect length and kept her interest for the entire length per my daughter. She said it's become one of their favorite books to snuggle up and read to after a long day. It's a fun book and they told me to be sure to give it a 5/5 star rating. So I have :).

Review

Praise for Ancient Appetites

“Combines the rich details of a 19th-century novel with science fiction . . . Impressively imagined . . . A well-plotted and absorbing story.” —The Irish Times

“Nate is an interesting character for readers to champion, and there are plenty of imaginative contraptions and detail for readers to enjoy.” —Write Away! Literary Magazine

“One is well and truly hooked. Unexpected plot twists fill the pages.” —Through the Looking Glass

“We’re in the realm of very imaginative science fiction with this one. . . . Highly recommended.” —Flipside Extra

Praise for The Wisdom of Dead Men

“The Wisdom of Dead Men is an explosive fantasy read, set in the Victorian era. It opens with a gripping spontaneous combustion and the action never lets up.” —The Independent

“A rollicking, steampunk adventure . . . I couldn’t put it down.” —The Irish Times

A short, fun intro to the Wildenstern family By Jessica I received a free copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This was my first experience with the Wildensterns. I was quite taken with the sassy Daisy and her bold brother in law Nate.Daisy reveals a character flaw that sets this tale in motion - the desire to anger her mother in law and for material gain. Had she left the engimal portmanteau alone, she wouldn't have been kidnapped but, if course, we wouldn't have had a story to read.Nate, on the other hand, seems like he will be a pretty clever hero throughout the series. Against the family's wishes, he goes on a full tilt rescue mission to save Daisy - in his underwear.I'm looking forward to finding out more about the family who lives by these rules of advancement within the family:"Number One: The Act of Aggression must be committed by the Aggressor himself and not by any agent or servant.Number Two: The Act must only be committed against a man over the age of sixteen who holds a superior rank in the family to the Aggressor.Number Three: The Act must only be committed for the purpose of advancing one’s position and not out of spite, or because of insult or offense given, or to satisfy a need for revenge for an insult or injury given to a third party.Number Four: All efforts should be made to avoid the deaths of servants while committing the Act. Good servants are hard to find.Number Five: The Target of the Aggression can use any and all means to defend himself, and is under an obligation to do so for the good of the family.Number Six: Retribution against the Aggressor can only be carried out after the Act has been committed. Should the Aggressor fail in his attempt, and subsequently escape to remain at large for a full day, only the Target of the Aggression and no other person will be permitted to take Retribution.Number Seven: No Act of Aggression or Retribution may be witnessed or reported by any member of the public. All family matters must be kept confidential.Number Eight: Any bodies resulting from the Act must be given a proper burial in a cemetery, crypt, catacomb, or funeral pyre approved by the family." (32%)5 stars.

Intricate details are unveiled organically and this little kidnapping caper is quite satisfying from start to end. Although there is nothing in here that can't be missed between novels 1 and 2, it's still a greatly enjoyable read in one of the best world building novels in the urban fantasy genre. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.
