The Son of God and the New Creation (Short Studies in Biblical Theology), by Graeme Goldsworthy

Review

“The widespread tendency to treat the Bible as if it has been dropped straight down from heaven into the hands of the individual believer significantly inhibits the life and hampers the mission of the church. This series of Short Studies in Biblical Theology holds important promise of helping to remedy this situation with its goal of providing pastors and their congregations with studies of key biblical themes that will foster a growing understanding and appreciation of the redemptive-historical flow and Christ-centered focus of Scripture as a whole. I look forward with anticipation to the appearance of these volumes.”—Richard B. Gaffin Jr., Professor of Biblical and Systematic Theology, Emeritus, Westminster Theological Seminary

“At last, biblical theology made accessible to the wider church! Goldsworthy gets this much-needed new series of mercifully shorter books on biblical theology off to a wonderful start with an instructive and edifying exploration of the Son of God through the Scriptures. This book cannot but produce greater love of the Bible, greater worship of the Son, and greater anticipation of the new creation.”—David P. Murray, Professor of Old Testament, Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary; pastor, Grand Rapids Free Reformed Church, Grand Rapids, Michigan; author, Jesus on Every Page and The Happy Christian

“Goldsworthy has devoted his lifetime’s work to helping us understand the organic unity of the Bible. He has had a huge influence on my understanding of how the Old Testament anticipates Christ. I recommend this important work to all readers, particularly pastors and laypeople who want to see Christ in the Old Testament.”—Tremper Longman III, Robert H. Gundry Professor of Biblical Studies, Westmont College

“In this focused little book, Goldsworthy does what he does best—he helps us connect the dots that punctuate the Bible from beginning to end. This book provides those of us who may have quickly read past biblical references to Jesus as the Son of God, thinking we have grasped the meaning of the term, with a tour of its variations and implications throughout Scripture, putting it in context of the failure of previous sons—Adam, Israel, and Solomon—so we might grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”—Nancy Guthrie, Bible Teacher; author, Seeing Jesus in the Old Testament Bible study series

“Goldsworthy has provided serious Bible students an excellent treatment of why and how God the Son took on flesh to save the children of God for the kingdom of God. Linking New Testament themes to their Old Testament sources, Goldsworthy demonstrates the importance of the unity of the Bible, union with Christ, and hope based in God’s coming kingdom. This is a solid beginning to an important series.”—Paul R. House, Professor of Divinity, Beeson Divinity School; author, Old Testament Theology

“A thought-provoking, careful, and engaging study of an important, and often misunderstood, notion. A great resource for further thinking!”—C. John Collins, Professor of Old Testament, Covenant Theological Seminary; author, The God of Miracles, Science, and Faith: Friends or Foes?

“The resurgence of interest in biblical theology owes much, perhaps most, to Graeme Goldsworthy. Who better, then, to inaugurate Crossway’s Short Studies in Biblical Theology? And there is no better way for such a series to start than with the Son of God, in whom all the promises are yes and amen.”—James M. Hamilton Jr., Associate Professor of Biblical Theology, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary; author, God’s Glory in Salvation through Judgment

“Goldsworthy writes with a clarity that is possible only for someone who has reflected deeply on the issues and is a master of his subject. This is not just a fine study of a biblical theme, but an excellent example of sound biblical-theological method. Don’t miss the last few pages, which show just how pastorally significant this book is.”—Barry G. Webb, Senior Research Fellow Emeritus in Old Testament, Moore Theological College

“There are many rich and vibrant themes that course throughout the Bible, and Goldsworthy has traced the idea of the Son of God with clarity, precision, and discernment. The Scriptures are massive, but with this little book we have a clear line of sight to learn more about the significance of this idea, whether as sons of God or as we contemplate the glory of the one and only Son of God, Jesus Christ. Anyone can profit from reading this study from one of today’s insightful biblical theologians.”—J. V. Fesko, Academic Dean and Professor of Systematic and Historical Theology, Westminster Seminary California

“In this worshipful book, Goldsworthy focuses on the incarnate Son of God as the climax of redemptive history and considers how his role relates to his also being God the Son as part of the Trinity. This book is for all who treasure Jesus and want to understand better how the whole Bible testifies about him. I delightfully recommend this book.”—Jason S. DeRouchie, Associate Professor of Old Testament, Bethlehem College and Seminary

By Joey Parker The Son of God and the New Creation by Graeme Goldsworthy is the first release in the new Short Studies in Biblical Theology Series form Crossway. The goal of this new series is to "connect the resurgence of biblical theology at the academic level with everyday believers. Each volume is written by a capable scholar or churchman who is consciously writing in a way that requires no prerequisite theological training of the reader. Instead, any thoughtful Christian disciple can track with and benefit from these books." If this volume is representative of the works that are to come then this goal will surely be met. I have previously read Goldsworthy and I am glad to say that this book will certainly make him more accessible to a broader range of readers.Goldsworthy states that the aim of The Son of God and the New Creation "is to investigate the title “Son of God” and other related sonship titles in order to deepen our appreciation of the person and work of Jesus of Nazareth. We will see that we cannot study these titles of Jesus without becoming deeply and personally involved since we, as believers, are defined by our relationship to Jesus." To study the title "Son of God" Goldsworthy begins with the New Testament. He then moves to find its Old Testament roots before moving back to the New Testament and helping the reader to see the big picture of what it means for Jesus to be the Son of God and what it means for us believers who are found in Him.Biblical theology is closely connected to the meta-narrative of Scripture (Creation, Fall, Redemption, Consummation) and Goldsworthy explains this close connection well. He states, "The structure of the biblical metanarrative, then, is important for any biblical-theological investigation. The Bible’s timeline involves a progression from the remote past event of the creation, through the early history leading to Abraham’s call, and then through the history of Israel. We reach the end of the Old Testament period, however, without a resolution to the prophetic expectations of the coming of the kingdom of God. The New Testament continues the progression with the account of Jesus: his life, death, resurrection, and ascension. The New Testament presents Jesus as the fulfillment of all the expectations of the Old Testament (the Gospels). Then come the apostolic witness and ministry to the first churches (the Epistles) and the final visions of the end (Revelation). There is clearly a dynamic not merely of historical events but of progressive revelation of God’s plan and purposes. This dynamic means that we must always consider the words and phrases that are the objects of our examination not in static, abstract terms but within a progressive redemptive revelation." This is a perfect description of what this book, and series, aims to do. Goldsworthy has done very well in his examination of the title "Son of God" in a way that is readable and yet highly informed. Readers will walk away with a greater understanding of the title and how it applies to Jesus and believers as well.I highly recommend this volume as it will certainly be a blessing to any who read it. I look forward to future volumes in this series. I received a digital copy of this book from Crossway in exchange for an honest review.

By Jude M St John If Graeme Goldsworthy’s The Son of God and the New Creation is indicative of what readers can expect from the new Crossway series Short Studies in Biblical Theology, then I suggest the books are going to be a tremendous gift to the church and her people. This first volume from the series delivers an edifying and intriguing look at a central theme of the Bible in a refreshingly accessible manner. The renaissance of biblical theology over the past decade has surely been a positive thing. Even as a layperson, I am aware of the increasing number of books in this genre that have been and are being published. I have even read a few of them myself. The Short Studies in Biblical Theology promises more biblical theology in the coming years. Series editors Dane C. Ortlund and Miles V. Van Pelt intend for these books to “magnify the Savior and to build up his church.” The Son of God and the New Creation thoroughly accomplishes both of these goals. In this volume the author, Goldsworthy, traces the theme of “Son of God” through the Bible and considers how God’s Son connects to the new creation. The study follows an outline which is clearly laid out in the first chapter. This volume will begin not in the Old Testament, but rather in the New Testament. Goldsworthy writes: “Since we begin our Christian journey by coming to faith in the person and work of Jesus, it makes sense to begin with him.” From there the author wants to identify how the New Testament authors relate this theme to the Old Testament which sets up a survey of the theme in the Old Testament itself. The author finishes with a consideration of New Testament application. Though the author recognizes that this method is not “the only way a biblical-theological investigation can be carried out,” I found it very helpful as well as easy to follow.I found that the theme in question and how the author conveyed his research both exalting to Jesus and edifying to me. With clear explanations and concise writing, Goldsworthy explains and expounds the theme “Son of God” and in doing so paints a picture of a glorious Saviour. In following this golden thread through the New and Old Testament, I found myself not only educated, but also enraptured; what a wonderful Saviour this God-man is. As has been my experience, following different thematic concepts through all of Scripture leads to some edifying discoveries. For instance, Goldsworthy’s study conveyed to me the surprising emphasis the Bible places on an actual location when dealing with God’s work in creation. In fact, the author suggests God’s redemptive plan can be explained simply: “God’s people in God’s place under God’s rule.” It was only through this investigation of the “Son of God” in Scripture that I became aware of this important detail. So, I found in this book, as I have found in other biblical theologies, a very helpful and God-honouring teaching. The series in general, and this book in particular, are intended to build up the church. The Son of God and the New Creation will build up the church, even the less-than-intellectual types as well as the I-have-an-aversion-to-reading types. Before getting this book in my hands, if you asked me to picture a book on biblical theology I would have envisioned a massive tome of at least 700 pages. The works on biblical theology that I have read are exactly that; large books that trace a theme through every book of the Bible, beginning in Genesis and ending in Revelation. They were incredibly impactful books that I am very grateful to have read. But they are not for everyone. The length alone would eliminate most people. That is where a book like the one in consideration succeeds; it is accessible to every level of reader and it will be helpful to every level of reader. In my opinion, putting biblical theology within the reach of the average church member is a significant contribution to the body of Christ. With the aim of writing a biblical-theological study of the “Son of God” that is edifying to the church and exalting to the church’s Saviour, I can say with conviction that The Son of God and the New Creation is a brilliant success. I recommend this book and am looking forward to the next in the series.A copy of this book was given to me from the publisher for the purpose of review.

Boling There are a number of titles applied to Jesus throughout Scripture with all of them bringing to light an important aspect of our Savior. Exploring the underlying meaning of those titles and the context in which they are used is an important element of sound Bible study. One such title is that of Jesus being described as the Son of God. Graeme Goldsworthy, in his excellent book The Son of God and the New Creation, walks the reader through what this particular title is all about and how the theme of the divine sonship of Christ can be traced through the entirety of Scripture.Over the past could of months, I have been drawn to books that have focused on a particular theme, tracing the use of certain terms, phrases, and concepts all through Scripture, exploring their use and importance. While some may find those types of books a little dull, from my experience, understanding words, patterns, and principles in Scripture is of the utmost importance. Misapply a term or misunderstand its meaning, in particular its specific use in Scripture in a particular context or in various periscope and you quite possible might negatively impact your grasp of what God is revealing. When it comes to the term Son of God, we have before us a term title pregnant with meaning and purpose. As Goldsworthy rightly notes, “The title Son of God clearly indicates a special relationship between Jesus and God the Father.” Of course the exact nature of this relationship is something in need of exploring and Goldsworthy does a marvelous job of doing just that in this book. Before setting out on his thematic journey through the Bible, Goldworthy first sets some essential ground rules on the nature of doing a thematic study of Scripture. This is most appreciated and necessary on a number of levels. He aptly reminds the reader that “As we examine our subject and related themes, we bear in mind the structure of redemptive revelation.” A title such as the son of God can be traced through all of Scripture and in doing so, one must be cognizant of the progressive nature of its use and how this title always points to Jesus.Goldsworthy begins his study with the New Testament and then works backwards to the Old Testament. This may seem a bit backwards at first glance given most thematic studies start with an examination of the Old Testament and then move forward into the New Testament witness. Goldsworthy provides a relevant explanation for starting with the New Testament, namely the reality that unfortunately, many are not as familiar or well versed in the Old Testament as they are in the new. Thus, he begins by taking a look at more familiar passages and then moves into the Old Testament text by looking at Adam, the various uses of the son of God title, all the while working in those more familiar New Testament texts into the conversation.I fully appreciated the manner by which Goldsworthy approaches this important topic. Those who read this short yet informative book will be presented with a valuable journey through Scripture, one that weaves together what Jesus as the son of God is all about, why it is biblically important, and how to understand the sheer beauty of this son of God and what he did on our behalf. This is a book I highly recommend for all believers.I received this book for free from Crossway Books and the opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255 : “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising.”

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. action packed By Christine Wainwright We couldn't put this series down my boys loved it! I got the first book and had to buy the next, when we finished that after only a few nights, I had to get the last book and it wasn't out yet! Luckily it was only a couple of weeks before it was due out. I think the boys were counting down the days! We were not disappointed! Now we are just sad there are no more books to get!

My 11-year-old daughter was enjoying this series & since some of the character's choices bothered her & some of the concepts confused her, I thought I'd start reading & try to catch up so we could discuss it together. I figured if it was wrought with mistruths, this would give me the chance to shed light on it for her as well. Instead, I began to rather enjoy the story & characters myself & I soon surpassed her, finishing the Poet's Storm just a few minutes ago. The trilogy was well written (this coming from a former English major), although adult readers & reviewers should expect it to be palatable for younger readers - it's not Tolstoy (thankfully!). The themes are amazingly deep for a young adult novel & the parallels between Christ & the Author unmistakeable, though you should not expect every parallel to hold, nor should the novel be read as a Bible study on spiritual warfare, the end times, etc (this coming from a pastor's wife). It is a safe read for kids (coming from a mom), though the battle scenes are graphic & you may want to consider reading it with younger kids for that reason. Something that I particularly liked was that though the younger characters were quite human & had moments of sass & arrogance, those characteristics were neither glorified nor long lasting. The young characters were not the only heroes & overall their was due respect toward elders. Humility was expressed as a virtue throughout. While my true rating would have been 4 1/2 stars if it had been available, I realized I lean closer to 5 than 4, thus the 5 stars. Enjoy!

Stealthy Steps, Nanostealth | Book 1

Look for Stealth Power, fall 2016! My name is Gemma Keyes. Other than my name, I am utterly forgettable—so those who never paid much attention to me in the first place haven’t exactly noticed that I’ve disappeared. Vanished. Oh, it’s much more complicated than it sounds. And let me tell you, invisibility comes with its own set of problems. I should tell you about Dr. Samuel Bickel, world-renowned nanophysicist. We used to work together, but I’ll be candid with you: He’s supposed to be dead. Well, he’s not. (Imagine my surprise.) Instead of the proverbial “six feet under,” he’s subsisting in an abandoned devolution cavern beneath the old Manzano Weapons Storage Facility on Kirtland Air Force Base here in Albuquerque. “I need to show you what I’m protecting here, Gemma,” he insisted. I stared into the clear glass case. I could hear . . . humming, clicking, buzzing. A faint haze inside the box shifted. Dissolved. Came back together. Reminded me of how mercury, when released on a plate, will flow and form new shapes. Only this, this thing was “flowing and forming” in midair. “Do you see them?” Dr. Bickel asked. “Them?” I was confused. My mouth opened to a stunned “o” as the silver haze resolved into blue letters. H E L L O Dr. Bickel hadn’t pressed any buttons. Hadn’t said anything to them. Hadn’t gestured. He grinned. “Ah. They’ve noticed you. They know they haven’t seen you before.” “Well, I wish they wouldn’t notice me!” I choked on the words, my eyes fixed on the glass case. And I need to warn you about General Cushing. The rank and name likely conjure images of a lean but muscled old soldier, posture rigid, face cemented in unyielding lines, iron-gray hair cut high and tight. Let me disabuse you of that impression. General Imogene Cushing is short and a tiny bit plump. She wears her silvered hair in an elegant braid knotted at the nape of her neck, and she knows how to smile sweetly. With the deadliest of sharks.. You wouldn’t suspect a two-star general, an Air Force O-8, of being a traitor, would you? Editorial Review

"The author impressed me by backing up the tale with some real science and actual locations. Gemma is one of the most well-developed characters I've seen, certainly not one of those comic-book caricatures that are so common now. She has a real personal history and real flaws that blend in well with the storyline." —The Kindle Book Review

I have read other Vikki Kestell books and deeply enjoy her characters and her artful way of painting stories, specially the Prairie Heritage Series.Stealthy Steps is set in modern day Albuquerque and is an absolutely captivating story. I love how Gemma was such an ordinary person thrust into an extraordinary adventure with epic hurdles to overcome. Gemma struggled with her humanity and desire to just be normal but with her completely un-normal situation, Gemma was a forced to grow. I found myself totally cheering and sometimes frustrated at her decisions. Either way Gemma totally came to life for me as did all the other characters. That writing quality has always been a litmus test for me in choosing the authors I follow and is why I got hooked on Vikki’s writings. My only gripe in this book is the fact I have to wait for book two lol. I have no doubt it will be worth the wait as Vikki Kestell has increasingly put out better and better books. Can’t wait to see what’s next!

The technical portion is well researched and sources are quoted at end of book. Good insight into nanotechnology that most people don't know anything about. I was sorry that I have to wait for a few months for the next sequel. Good writing and character development. I highly recommend this author.

Not only are these books entertaining, but they are informative and very inspiring. I wish I had known these characters in real life. They become so real. I look forward to reading many more of Vicki's books, and to receiving the book that answers some unanswered questions.

The One and Only Ivan is a Newbery Medal winner and a #1 New York Times bestseller! This large-format collector's edition includes full-color interior artwork from illustrator Patricia Castelao, a special letter from Katherine Applegate, her Newbery Medal acceptance speech, a letter from Ivan's caretaker at Zoo Atlanta, Ivan's signature, and sketches and illustrations that were not part of the original book.

Inspired by the true story of a captive silverback gorilla known as Ivan, this stirring and unforgettable novel celebrates the transformative power of unexpected friendships. Having spent twenty-seven years behind the glass walls of his enclosure in a shopping mall, Ivan has grown accustomed to humans watching him. He hardly ever thinks about his life in the jungle. Instead, Ivan occupies himself with television, his friends Stella and Bob, and painting. But when he meets Ruby, a baby elephant taken from the wild, he is forced to see their home, and his art, through new eyes.

Hailed as a best book of the year by Kirkus, School Library Journal, and Amazon, Katherine Applegate's novel blends humor and poignancy to create this incredible tale of friendship, art, and hope told from Ivan's own point of view, in the tradition of timeless classics such as Charlotte's Web and Stuart Little.

The One and Only Ivan Full-Color Collector's Edition: My Story, by Katherine Applegate

From School Library Journal Gr 4–6—Budding fans and die-hard Ivanites alike will appreciate this sumptuous, oversize edition of Applegate's spare yet resonant Newbery Award—winning work, inspired by actual events, about a gorilla put on display at a mall and his journey to freedom. Castelao's gentle spot-art illustrations, originally printed in black-and-white, are presented in full color, bringing to life with tenderness Ivan; his friends Stella, Ruby, and Bob; and the artwork Ivan creates, which eventually casts a spotlight on his plight. Bonus materials add appeal and context: Applegate's Newbery acceptance speech; a copy of the real Ivan's "autograph" (fingerprint); a letter from Jodi Carrigan, the zookeeper who helped care for Ivan at Zoo Atlanta (where he lived after leaving the mall); and sketches and illustrations that were considered for the original edition.—Mahnaz Dar, School Library Journal

Review “Will capture readers’ hearts and never let go. A must have.” (School Library Journal (starred review))“Animal-loving youngsters and their adults will find plenty of food for thought in Ivan’s extraordinary story.” (Bulletin of the Center for Children’s Books (starred review))“Exemplifies everything youngsters need to know about courage.” (Kirkus Reviews (starred review))“Discover an animal hero that will take his place with other courageous and beloved animals such as Babe, Mrs. Frisby, Charlotte and Wilbur. Adults reading this aloud with children will find it just as rewarding.” (Shelf Awareness)“Important.” (The Horn Book)“The One and Only Ivan will break your heart—and then, against all odds, mend it again. In cheering for Ivan and his friends, we cheer for our own humanity and our own possibilities. Read this.” (Gary D. Schmidt, Newbery Honor author of The Wednesday Wars)“A beautifully written, intelligent and brave book. You will never look at the relationship of humans and animals in the same way again. Quite simply, this story is life changing.” (Patricia MacLachlan, Newbery Medal-winning author of Sarah, Plain and Tall)“Katherine Applegate’s beautiful, life-affirming story will soar directly from Ivan’s heart into your own. Read it out loud. Read it alone. Read it.” (Kathi Appelt, Newbery Honor author of The Underneath)

From the Author When I started to write about the grim facts of the real Ivan's solitary existence, a new tale slowly began to take shape.  At least on the page, where anything is possible, I wanted to give Ivan (even while captive behind the walls of his tiny cage) a voice of his own and a story to tell. A tale of humanity and tenderness, from a gorilla's perspective By Jared Castle Parents on the qui vive for deeper stories to share with their children need look no further than Katherine Applegate's tale, "The One and Only Ivan", written from the perspective of a Silverback gorilla living in a shopping mall.Too many children are sheltered from animals, left to draw their experiences from animated movies like Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda and Alvin and the Chipmunks. What's missing from those stories? Humanity and tenderness; qualities you will find in abundance in this book.Applegate's story should resonate with animal lovers, too. The gorilla lives a simple, sad life with only a couple friends, including Bob, a stray dog, and Stella, an aging elephant. The years of living behind a glass wall at the Exit 8 Big Top Mall and Video Arcade has numbed Ivan to his own misery. He is barely self-aware of his suffering until the arrival of a baby elephant named Ruby arouses emotions long dormant in Ivan.I read the book to my sons as a bedtime story. The first-person narrative hooked them after only a few pages. The chapters are short, which makes it easy to reach a stopping point each night. A word of caution, only the cold-hearted will finish this book without feeling a pang or shedding a tear. My sons' enthusiasm has me considering The Yearling, a Pulitzer Prize winning classic, for our next bedtime book.In summary, I'm a bit tired of Harry Potterish fantasy novels. The One and Only Ivan is an emotionally satisfying tale. My advice for parents is to read the story to their children, especially those under age 10.Rating: Five stars.MAY 2013 Update: The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate and Patricia Castelao is the 2013 winner of the John Newbery Medal, awarded annually by the American Library Association (ALA) to the author of the year's most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.Since my initial review, both of my sons (now ages 10 and 9) have taken this book off their bookshelf for private reading, following my bedtime narration. Ivan's story resonates with them still.

Wonderful By Cathe I was hesitant to chose this book thinking an animal book would be too silly or something . . . but Applegate's Home of the Brave is one of my favorite books ever so I decided to take a chance. And I am SO GLAD I DID. This book was wonderful--heartbreakingly wonderful. I just loved every character--both animal and human. Ivan the artistic gorilla, Stella the stoic mother elephant, Bob the tough on the outside but not so tough on the inside dog, and of course Ruby the baby elephant who just wants to be loved. And the humans: George the sympathetic caretaker and his daughter Julie, a bit like Fern in Charlotte's web because she can almost understand Ivan--or at least understand his art. Every character was real--even Mack the owner of the menagerie, though we hate what he's doing, there is more too him than just badness. The situation was just so sad but so well done--the minute I finished the book, I immediately passed it on to my daughter . . . maybe not the best idea to give it to her at bedtime though because I could not get her to turn out her light, she was so immediately drawn into the book. I highly recommend this moving book which teaches compassion towards animals.

94 of 100 people found the following review helpful. A great book for readers of any age By Kperry I almost missed the joy of reading The One and Only Ivan because I thought that it was only for young readers, ages 8 to 12. Not so, this 54 year-old loved this book. The story was inspired by Ivan, a silver back gorilla who was raised by humans, and then sold when he became too large to keep in a home. For 27 years he lived in a cage in a shopping mall until public pressure ultimately won him a home among his own kind in a zoo. But this not a story of despair, it is about love and the power of one individual to make monumental changes. Katherine Applegate's character Ivan was resigned to his sad fate, whiling away his days thinking about art and painting pictures on scraps of paper. That is until a baby elephant named Ruby arrives. He soon realizes he must do something to save her from a lifetime in captivity. Using art as his only tool, he creates a new and better reality for her, and unwittingly for himself too. Readers of any age will enjoy this tale and have much to learn from Ivan.

Not only did this book make me crave a little chocolate, it made me long for the beach. Julie Carobini did a wonderful job combining a beach setting and an interesting story. The heroine dealt with serious problems without coming across as angsty. I really enjoyed the way the romance played out, and didn't guess what would happen until the end.

By Amazon Customer Here is your original review of CB:Bri Stone's blissful fourteen-year marriage to Mr. Incredibly Handsome Douglas has suddenly drifted into murky waters. Friends are dropping hints that Douglas is looking rather "too single" lately while zipping around Ventura in his new sports car. Bri longs to ignore her friends' concerns, but Douglas HAS been missing their dinner dates and keeping unusually long work hours at the law office. To further muddy the marital waters, Bri has found evidence that Douglas is shopping for a new home, without discussing the matter with her.Is Douglas becoming bored with Bri's carefree ways and with their beach-kitsch-deco oceanside home? When Bri is unable to confront Douglas about the state of their marriage, due to schedule conflicts and illness, she decides to polish her casual image and her beloved house to regain her husband's interest. As friends, relatives, and a new boss advise, patronize, and sympathize with her efforts, Bri frequently consoles herself by eating delectably described brownies on the beach--leaving this winter-bound reader happily soaking up the sunny descriptions, while being tempted to wake the family by baking brownies at midnight. Bri, where is the recipe?Author Julie Carobini's characters are lovingly described and the well-paced plot balances humor, lessons in faith, and some gently explored sorrows, making Chocolate Beach a delightful read. Enjoy!

By Alisha Thibodeau When it comes to learning about the body, my daughter (6.5 years) is a little squeamish. This book is PERFECT for a kid who is sensitive to realistic body images. It's thorough without being overly graphic. The graphics are done in an aesthetically pleasing style and the content is very informative.

"The Voice Within" is from a talk I gave on "The Call of the Soul" - a wonderful chapter from Paul Twitchell's classic, "Stranger by the River". The theme of this talk is listening to the voice of soul and the Divine Spiritual Current within you. As you learn to pay attention to this inner voice of Divine Love, to relax and let go to IT, you gradually awaken into Soul Awareness, God-Consciousness and Spiritual Freedom in this lifetime. This process of focusing your attention on the Spiritual Current is known as Surat Shabda Meditation. In the LightSong of Eternal Love, Thank you, Michael Turner http://spiritualfreedomsatsang.org
