"These are your own sheep," she said, "and you’re destroying them? And you don’t care?" "They’re not sheep, they’re words. They’ve been read. So I’ll just sweep the ashes, make room for other words." "Whisk? All gone?” "That’s what I’m planning. Do you mind?” "OK. They might as well be buried. I’m sorry I screamed."

It felt like I was just catching up with an old friend. I laughed at some old stuff and found myself intrigued by sides of himself that I had not seen before. All that was missing was a hot cup of peppermint tea under some old oaks on a brisk sunny day.

An extraordinary story on how to find your true Self. By throwing himself into the unknown the author finally found the answers to what we truly are.

“Existence is an on-going rediscovery of the self.”

This is in many ways a controversial book. It challenges both the major religions and modern science, and you may be forced to scrutinize yourself and your own values. We live in a time where a lot of people leave the old beliefs behind and at the same time feel that the materialist worldview feels cold and soulless. In his lifelong search for answers, the author has explored places most of us never dared to visit by throwing himself into the unknown. What he have to say may shake up society and our most fundamental notions about reality, revealing a bridge between the spiritual and the physical world. With the knowledge gained from his own spiritual experiences and his spiritual studies, he explains what consciousness is all about, how we ought to live our lives, where we come from and where we are heading. Above all, he shows that you don’t need to believe in any ideology. You can for yourself understand and experience the solution to the mystery of life. “Every time you feel something painful it’s because you created a separation between yourself and something else. If you return to become one with what you meet, the suffering will go away. The meaning of life in the physical world is to understand that as long as you are two, you will experience various forms of pain.”

The second part of the book was a joy to read By Thomas Rice A very fascinating story of a young man’s search for answers that reaches its climax when Magnus experiences a series of strong spiritual experiences. The second part of the book was a joy to read. What caught me the most was the information he received during these experiences. Therein lies a number of answers that I have been searching for myself and they feel spot on! Some of the information I have never seen before.

I love the mix of magic and technology, and how it all plays into the culture and politics of the world. There is just enough in this short novella that leaves me itching to read the rest of the series and dive deeper into the world of the Arcaians, Feihrians, and Itharians.Cortney Pearson's writing is almost poetic, with dazzling imagery that pulls you in and makes you feel as if you were right there with Talon. Each moment is vivid and intense, all leading to a climax I won't soon forget.Talon is at a crossroads, a time in his life when he has to make a choice of which path he will follow, and there are no easy answers. The choices he's faced with, and the one he ultimately makes, are what make him a character that will stick with me for a long time, and one that I'm eager to read more about.

By Scarlet Aingeal I received a free copy of Such A Clever Deception from the publisher in return for an honest review.Such A Clever Deception is a prequel to the Stolen Tears series and introduces a bit of back story to one of the characters from the series. I have read the first book of The Stolen Tears series and I think because I know the character from that book that I could appreciate this look behind the scenes a little bit more than if I was coming to it without any other knowledge of the story.I don't feel that this short really gives a great example of the depth of characters, world building and writing style of the author as much as it could. I really do enjoy the imagination and the way this author approaches a story and I think that Such A Clever Deception was a little bit too short to really show off her talent.

Fantasy Novella By Bethany Swafford Such A Clever Deception is a clever twist between the modern world we live in: with trucks and houses like we have; and fantasy: abilities and magic. Being set in a pre-established world, it gives a a glimpse into the rest of the series and the characters that play an important part. Not having read any of the series, I found myself intrigued by the world created by Cortney Pearson.Talon was a protagonist is one I really felt for and how he comes to realize the deception that has been played against him is heartrending.I highly recommend it to any fantasy fans out there!I was provided with a free copy as part of the LovingTheBook blog tour and all opinions expressed are my own.

"I have come at this time, in this place, and through this being to speak my truth, to speak the story of my life -- the true story of my life."

The purpose of this book is to clarify, to tell the truth, and to share my energies with you so that you can begin the transformation of your mind and, therefore, the transformation of your heart and your world. It is in the misteachings that have been associated with my name that much death and pain has been caused and that much guilt and self-recrimination has been expressed. That was not my purpose; that was not my lesson.

This story will begin the change. It will not make the change. It will facilitate turning the key in the lock, but you must open the door and walk through it into a new realm that is opened by this information. That is your responsibility. We can only bring you the message, this channel and I. We can only work together to transmit the information, but it is through your actions and your transformation that you will see a change in your world, a change in the subjective world that is manufactured from your beliefs, your thoughts, and your feelings.

I talk about the truth of my birth and the truth of my life. I cover some stories that are recounted in the Bible and tell you the true story of those events. I describe some of my personal traits, my human traits, and I define what I am, who I am, and why these things happened. You will be able to understand the truth, and you will begin this reconditioning, this retooling of your mind -- of your thoughts and beliefs -- on this subject of my life, my meaning, and my purpose, for it is a long process. The time is ripe. The need for a spiritual revolution is here.

-- Jesus

Jesus: My Autobiography, by Tina Louise Spalding

About the Author Tina Louise Spalding began channeling Jesus during the summer of 2013, when he appeared in her book Great Minds Speak to You. It proved to be a great challenge not only to accept the assignment he offered her -- writing this autobiography -- but to also face many of the fears that this unusual experience brought up. Tina has been asked to channel for Jesus on an ongoing basis, and she intends to provide public offerings of his teachings in the future.

Herrera I had been having questions about the life of Jesus, and I ran into some videos of Tina Louise Spalding. She channels Jesus and many of the things she talked about seemed much more true than what I had been thought in church and from family and friends. I follow the teachings of Buddha and I believe in something like Cosmic Intelligence, or the Laws of the Universe, but since I have been raised Roman Catholic, I always run into one or two issues that deal with the Catholic faith. The book definitively deals with Jesus' life, appropriately starting before conception, and past his crucifixion. But he doesn't just stop telling us the story of his life. He also takes the opportunity to impart his teachings, not the RC church's teachings, as well as explaining the laws of the Universe. This book is best understood if you are familiar with New Age terms like law of attraction, past life, incarnation, channeling, abundance, etc. Also, Jesus touches controversial topics like death, sexuality, abortion, drugs, Mary Magdalene, immaculate conception, etc. This is not a mainstream read or biblical study material, instead it is a rebel yell to make you wake up! A very good book indeed.

Christian dogma is designed to control the masses through fear and guilt. The Church: "Believe upon the story we have told you or burn in hell for all eternity. Also, don't forget to give ten percent of everything you earn to the church. If you don't tithe, God will be mad at you and you really don't want that, do you?"This channeled autobiography will inform you what Jesus actually taught to the people back in the day. Very informative and powerful.I am sure that many Christians will reject the message because it conflicts with their beliefs. Ironically they will reject the message from the being whom they profess to adore. Will you recognize truth when you hear it?

I was so curious and knew there was so much more to the life of Jesus. This book contained many of the answers I was in search of and provided answers to questions I did not even think to ask. If you are curious about the life of Jesus this book has the answers. I recommend it to anyone in search of the truth.

It's not a blessing, it's a dreadful situation, a phase in which a person feels stressful and emotional. There came a time in our life when me and my husband were facing a lot of differences. I just had to elope with him somehow, to change our minds and save ourselves from the outcomes of divorce, I got this book for both of us to read. I'm glad I did because it really helped us. I can't describe in words how much we're thankful to Laura J. Smith for writing this book. It's worth reading not only for the divorced, but also for married couples.

By SH&SH STORE I have a friend who recently went through a divorce and I was shocked at how easy she coped with it. She seemed happy and always at ease even after going through such a painful experience. That is when she shared me this book, Happiness After Divorce: Working Through depression and Loneliness and Coming Home to Yourself. I am not even married yet but reading this book helped me understand what divorcees are going through, making me silently hoping that it won’t happen to me too. Still, this book is really great and helpful. Thanks for sharing your tips.

I have read many books on how to become happy after you go through a divorce. None of them had any quality information inside. This book is full of useful information that will help you along the way. This book started with great tips, and the tips continued to the end. There was never a time that I thought about no finishing it. Laura J. Smith did a fantastic job on this book. I will be reading other books by this author in the future. I am hoping all of her self-help books have great tips like this one.

"Hurry up! You may only go to bed when all the sheets are ironed." Little Coco grew up in the orphanage and had to work hard for a living sewing and embroidering like an angel. Until her eighteenth birthday . . . Coco knew one thing for sure Coco. She would never, never be poor again. A beautifully illustrated picture book biography of Coco Chanel. Coco Chanel (1883-1971) was a famous French fashion designer. Born into a poor family, strictly brought up in the orphanage, influenced by the style of wealthy suitors , she remained faithful throughout her life to the simplicity. A luxurious simplicity , which has produced memorable style icons like the little black dress and perfume Chanel No. 5.

Coco and the Little Black Dress, by Annmarie Van Haeringen

From School Library Journal Gr 2–4—This modern-day fairy tale chronicles the rags-to-riches story of French fashion designer Coco Chanel. When Chanel was a child, her father sent her to live in an orphanage, where she developed marketable skills such as embroidery, sewing, knitting, mending, and crochet. As a young woman, Chanel found work as a seamstress and spent her nights singing and dancing in nightclubs. There, she befriended wealthy individuals, who often invited her to stay with them. Chanel took careful note of what activities and adornments the rich enjoyed and figured out how to improve them with her own flair, for instance, sewing her own pair of riding jodhpurs. Upon invitation to the races, Chanel bought straw boater hats from a thrift store and added her own embellishments; soon, there was enough demand that she was able to start a hat shop. Determined never to wear a corset, Chanel began designing functional dresses that included pockets. Her legacy, though, was her perfume and her Little Black Dress, which highlights the beauty of the woman wearing it. Van Haeringen's spare artwork is simply beautiful and reflects Chanel's approach to fashion. Vibrant touches of watercolor among delicate pen-and-ink drawings bring to mind Ludwig Bemelmans's Madeline. Infused with humor, this Cinderella-esque tale should appeal to readers. The book lacks back matter, however, making it more suitable for pleasure reading than for report writing. VERDICT Recommended for general purchase in school and public libraries.—Samantha Lumetta, Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, OH

Review "The point is simply this, Coco and the Little Black Dress is equally appealing to an adult with a wonderful sense of whimsy and especially to those who may not be conversant in the history of Coco Chanel. Without question, the book is a delight to read and probably will become a keepsake for those who will have this read to them as a bedtime tale." -Jeffrey Felner, New York Journal of Books"The line-drawn illustrations, often resembling fashion sketches, use white space and pops of color to maximum effect...the book’s simple elegance is perfectly suited to the story of Coco and her iconic black dress." -Julia Smith, Booklist"Van Haeringen’s illustrations, black line drawings with dabs of color against expanses of white, are drawn with a precise yet whimsical panache that brilliantly suits their subject."- New York Times Book Review"Van Haeringen’s spare artwork is simply beautiful and reflects Chanel’s approach to fashion. Vibrant touches of watercolor among delicate pen-and-ink drawings bring to mind Ludwig Bemelmans’s Madeline." - Samantha Lumetta, School Library Journal"Van Haeringen's spare mixed-media illustrations throughout this tiny tribute are as alluring as her subject's timeless designs, capturing the eye with fine pen and ink detail, stark colors, warm watercolor shading, and Bemelmans-like playfulness...as a picture book, it is utterly endearing."- Kirkus Reviews

About the Author Annemarie Van Haeringen was born in 1959 in the Netherlands. She is a Dutch illustrator, having studied at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. She has created a remarkable number of children's picture books and has worked for several children's magazines. Her picture books have won numerous awards. In 2014 she won a Silver Brush for Coco or the little black dress. She currently lives in Amsterdam.

Annemarie Van Haeringen's COCO AND THE LITTLE BLACK DRESS was my daughter's and my first foray into children's nonfiction (other than nature books). This award winning book tells the story of the rise of famed fashion designer Coco Chanel. While the name Coco Chanel is probably familiar to most, I knew little about her life. This book is an uplifting tale for kids about how one can start with a humble upbringing, in an orphanage no less, and persevere to become one of the most recognizable names in fashion. This 32-page book tells the story of how Coco paved her own path, was willing to take chances, and explicitly tried to disrupt the fashion world. The book is geared to children as young as four years, and my daughter was able to appreciate and follow it. As a parent, it is always nice to learn something from reading, and I did with this book. The book begins in the orphanage where Coco learned to sew then follows her career and how she observed how the rich and famous acted, but Coco was always astonished as their fashion choices. She sought to stand out from the crowd. Coco Chanel's story is fascinating, and the book does a great job of putting her story in language that a child can follow. The illustrations are nothing fancy, but they work in this story. Haeringen pulls off the challenging combination of great story with great illustrations. Coco Chanel's story is one that many kids could seek to emulate, and Hareningen relays the story in a way that lets a parent talk to a child about what Coco overcame. COCO AND THE LITTLE BLACK DRESS is wonderful and worth reading not just for the story of a fashion icon but for the story of someone who overcame significant odds.

Not everything can be as clever and deep as Dr. Seuss, or as elegant and visually striking as Oliver Jeffers, and judging a book meant for someone 30 years younger, can be a tricky. That said, I really liked Annmarie illustrations. They’re simple, beautiful and stylish, very fitting for the subject matter. As for the narrative, I liked it, but i just don’t know if it achieves what it’s looking for. Maybe I was trying to find a clear life lesson, and there isn’t one (although many can be inferred, as deciding what you’re aiming for or following your own path). Maybe I found the description a bit simplistic, but suddenly muddled with some complex words (as jodhpurs or supple). But really, what do I know? My favorite books are Fight Club and High Fidelity, so I’m not the best judge for this one.If you know your children is going to appreciate a beautifully illustrated book, go for it.

Ebook PDF The Buddha's Wife: The Path of Awakening Together, by Janet Surrey PhD, Samuel Shem MD

As the category of women’s spirituality continues to grow, The Buddha’s Wife offers to a broad audience for the first time the intimate and profound story of Princess Yasodhara, the wife Buddha left behind, and her alternative journey to spiritual enlightenment. What do we know of the wife and child the Buddha abandoned when he went off to seek his enlightenment? The Buddha’s Wife brings this rarely told story to the forefront, offering a nuanced portrait of this compelling and compassionate figure while also examining the practical applications her teachings have on our modern lives. Princess Yasodhara’s journey is one full of loss, grief, and suffering. But through it, she discovered her own enlightenment within the deep bonds of community and “ordinary” relationships. While traditional Buddhism emphasizes solitary meditation, Yasodhara’s experience speaks of “The Path of Right Relation,” of achieving awareness not alone but together with others. The Buddha’s Wife is comprised of two parts: the first part is a historical narrative of Yasodhara’s fascinating story, and the second part is a “how-to” reader’s companion filled with life lessons, practices, and reflections for the modern seeker. Her story provides a relational path, one which speaks directly to our everyday lives and offers a doorway to profound spiritual maturation, awakening, and wisdom beyond the solitary, heroic journey.

The Buddha's Wife: The Path of Awakening Together, by Janet Surrey PhD, Samuel Shem MD

Review "Smoothly written and with compelling applications of social and psychological theories as well as Buddhist tradition, this can serve both spiritual practitioners and secular readers seeking insight on strengthening themselves and their relationships." (Booklist)"After narrating the tale of Yasodhara’s survival and spiritual growth in the company of others, Surrey and Shem draw on Jean Baker Miller’s relational-cultural theory dealing with the importance of relationships, Zen peace activist Thich Nhat Hanh’s concept of interbeing, and other sources to investigate the power of connection to heal individuals and, perhaps, a suffering world." (Publishers Weekly)"In this creative, groundbreaking rendering, the relational ‘Yin’ of Buddhism, so often absent, is brought beautifully to life. The teachings are clear, vibrant, relevant. They guide us in loving more fully, and are the very grounds for healing our earth and bringing peace to our world." (Tara Brach, Ph.D., author of Radical Acceptance and True Refuge)"A beautiful imagination of the feminine and relational side of the Buddha's tale." (Jack Kornfield, author of The Wise Heart)This long-untold story, a truly provocative teaching tale—timeless and timely, perfect for our disenchanted era—will prove useful and enlightening to those who seek to find freedom within relationships. Here is a whole fresh take on the well-tilled field of the historical Buddha's life and teaching. (Lama Surya Das, author of Awakening the Buddha Within)“The Buddha’s Wife is a gripping telling of an amazing 2,500-year-old story, followed by a collection of contemporary inspirational stories, and specific reflections and practices collected from the lives and work of ‘relational activists’ all over the world. A great read and a practical guide for anyone who wants to ‘wake up’ and walk a path of healing with others.” (Martin Sheen)"Bless you Janet, Sam, and Yashodhara for pointing us in the feminist clarity that we serve best as an ‘I’ in the nest of the ‘we’, being communal at home and the world was the smartest decision of my life. Let's help midwife a loving world." (Dr. Hunter "Patch" Adams, doctor, clown and activist for peace and justice)"An imaginative tour de force, this book lets the Buddha's central teaching shine through with stunning relevance for our lives today. Enlightenment or awakening has traditionally been viewed as a solitary achievement. The tale of Yasodhara offers a welcome and engaging counter-balance, where relationships are recognized as central to the Buddhist view of reality as well as to our personal lives. ALong with the engrossing story, the authors offer reflections and guidance on mindful practices that help us wake up to and through our relationships. Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike will want to train in the fullness of presence." (Joanna Macy, author of Coming Back to Life)“Though I'm not a Buddhist, I sense that this account deepens and adds beautiful shadings to the story of the Buddha's life. I know that in its focus on relationship, it's a powerful antidote to the hyperindividualism that marks our world.” (Bill McKibben, author of The Comforting Whirlwind)“A brave and life-changing book, The Buddha’s Wife speaks to perhaps the greatest challenge of our time, our false sense of separateness. For all people of all faiths, The Buddha’s Wife shifts perception and thus opens us to possibility. It touched me deeply.” (Frances Moore Lappe, author of Diet for a Small Planet)“Janet Surrey and Samuel Shem have written a remarkable book, both as a work of literature and a work of spiritual teaching. Through their moving personal story and their beautiful imagining of the life of Yasodhara, the Buddha’s wife, they describe a ‘relational path’ to awakening, one that contrasts with that of the heroic solitary seeker we see so often in religious texts and myths. The Buddha’s Wife comes at a time of distress and conflict in our culture and offers hope that we might learn to live together in a new way, founded in an understanding of our shared struggle for happiness and freedom.” (Kevin Griffin, author of One Breath at a Time and Recovering Joy)“The Buddha’s Wife carries us beyond any one religious tradition to launch us gently into streams of a universal wisdom. Therein is its spiritual power. This is a beautifully written book for all who know, at least intuitively, that our liberation—as people and as a planet—is rooted in our shared commitments to more radically relational and mutual ways of being than any of the major world religions (including Buddhism) either teach or practice.” ((The Rev) Carter Heyward, PhD, professor emerita of Theology, Episcopal Divinity School, Cambridge MA)“What must it have been like for the Buddha’s wife to be abandoned the night after her first child was born? Surrey and Shem have a brilliant story to tell, one of a heart shattered by loss, a community that doesn’t shy away from suffering, and a path to freedom that is radical yet ordinary, humble yet profound. The authors offer a healing vision, nurtured throughout their life together, that is just what our world.” (Christopher Germer, PhD, author of The Mindful Path to Self-Compassion, co-editor of Mindfulness and Psychotherapy, clinical instructor at Harvard Medical School)“The Buddha’s Wife is a riveting tale that will move your heart and shift your focus to the precious beings around you. In our world, where the social fabric is torn by violence, greed, and neglect, this visionary story offers us an alternative path beyond individualism and self-preoccupation. Drawing on the deep wisdom of relational and spiritual practices that Surrey and Shem have studied, created, and engaged in over decades, this timeless and beautiful narrative shows us what deep attunement to ourselves and to one another looks like, as well as the means by which we can work to manifest it.” (Mary Watkins, author of Toward Psychologies of Liberation)“The Buddha’s Wife is a visionary work of profound insight, imagination, compassion, and scholarship. In telling the lost story of Yasodhara, Surrey and Shem give us a lamp for our troubled times, illuminating new paths and practices for all relationships.” (Susan M. Pollak, coauthor of Sitting Together)

When at the age of 29, Siddhartha came in contact with illness, old age, and death, he decided he had to leave the palace in search of an understanding of suffering. Years later, age 35, he achieved enlightenment and became the Buddha. In the process, Siddhartha abandoned Yasodhara and left her at home with the couple's newborn son, Rahula. The Buddha's story has become increasingly familiar in the United States, but little is written about Yasodhara. The Buddhist scriptures do not say a great deal about her or about her experience when Siddhartha left on his search. Buddhist writers are aware of the difficulties surrounding Siddhartha's decision to leave home. Some years ago, I attended a week-long meditation retreat and a well-known scholar-monk offered a Dhamma talk trying to explain the basis for Siddhartha's decision in a sympathetic way. This new book, "The Buddha's Wife: Her Story and Reader's Companion, The Path of Awakening Together, " by Janet Surrey and Samuel Shem offers an imaginative retelling of the story of Yasodhara and its significance from Yasodhara's perspective. The authors, husband and wife, are extraordinarily intelligent and accomplished; in another context, they might be referred to as a "power couple". Shem is a physician who taught at Harvard Medical School for 35 years and who has written successful novels and plays. Surrey, who has also taught at Harvard Medical School, is a renowned clinical psychologist, author and Buddhist meditation leader. She and Shem have coauthored an earlier book, "We have to Talk: Healing Dialogues Between Women and Men" (1999) .The book begins with a highly personal introduction about the course of the authors' lives together. The body of the book is in two parts. Part one is an imagined telling of Yasodhara's story after Siddhartha abruptly leaves. She moves between grief and anger. With time Yasodhara and the Buddha's step-mother, Pajapati, form a healing circle with other women in the palace. The circle gradually expands and ultimately includes men as the participants share their experiences and feelings and learn to help one another. Yashodhara becomes known as "she who stays" as opposed to Siddhartha who left home. She develops a path called "right relations" to complement the eight-fold noble path that the Buddha would teach. The path of Right Relations focuses on "learning to live together". It is illustrated in Yasodhara's story. In the second part of the book, titled "A Reader's Companion", Surrey and Shem offer extended commentary on their telling of Yasodhara's story. In fact, they often quote sections from the story as lead-ins to their discussion. Surrey and Shem draw on their extensive knowledge of Buddhism and psychology to illuminate themes of community, understanding suffering and developing compassion, raising children, facing the old age and death of loved ones, quarrels and misunderstandings between men and women, and more. The discussions include suggestions for reflection, alone or in a group, and meditation. The discussion has a strongly Buddhist perspective but its value is not limited to followers of the Buddha. The combination of Buddhism and deep learning in medicine and psychology is inspiring in itself and not to be put aside lightly The authors know their scientific material and write in a way personal and intimate. I learned a great deal about relationships from this book and about why they succeed or fail. Most of this book in its spirituality and psychology has a great deal to teach.Although he is not mentioned, much of the book reminded me of an American philosopher I admire, the idealist thinker Josiah Royce (1855 -- 1916). Royce taught the importance of community as opposed to individualism. He used the concept of a "beloved community" which found its way into the thought of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and into this book. He also taught interconnectedness in a spiritual absolute, together with the problems of individuals in daily life. Surrey and Shem refer to the "particular challenge to spiritual communities, which point to a universal absolute beyond this worldly substrate of human experience" -- language which has an idealistic, Roycean tinge. I learned a great deal from this book in that it encouraged me to tie together the Buddhist studies I have done with my reading of Royce.I was not happy with the political content of this book, its frequently unqualified criticism of the United States, and its embrace of a particular political agenda on the left. I do not understand Buddhism as having a political agenda, anymore so (and probably less than) than do Western religions. People come to the Dhamma and to spirituality as they are without a political litmus test. In an interesting discussion of the book, the authors describe sessions they held with groups of men and women asking each group what they wanted the other gender most to understand. Both groups replied they wished the other sex to understand that "we are not your enemy". This answer too could be offered by a personified United States in response to some of the strictures in this book: "we are not your enemy". In terms of living within the terms of one's culture, I was also reminded of the following words of Royce:"That patient loyalty to the actual social order is the great reformer's first duty; that a service of just this erring humanity, with its imperfect and yet beautiful system of highly organized relationships, is the best service that a man can tender to the Ideal; that he is the best idealist who casts away as both unreal and unideal the vain private imaginings of his own weak brain, whenever he catches a glimpse of any higher and wider truth, all this lesson we, like other peoples and generations, have to study and learn."Although I am uncomfortable with the political emphasis and scope of this book, its merits far outweigh its deficiencies. The story of Yashodhara is thoughtfully and imaginatively told with much room for reflection. The book helped me understand difficult, painful issues and moments in my life as if the authors knew where I had been. The book. brought back to me the Buddhism I have studied, reminded me of the importance of community and daily life, and helped me combine my thinking about Buddhism and philosophy.Robin FriedmanThe quotation from Royce is from an essay, "An Episode of Early California Life: the Squatter" which is part of his 1898 book, "Studies of Good and Evil".

A Much-Needed Yin to the Buddha's Yang By Tom Pedulla Little is known about Yasodhara, the Buddha's wife, who was abandoned by her husband when he went off to seek enlightenment on the night their first and only child was born. In this bold and inspirational volume, Surrey and Shem imagine how she might have dealt with this traumatic loss, and how she eventually found her own path to awakening, not by going forth alone, but by staying where she was, sharing her grief, and finding a way through it in dialogue and in community. The result is a radical vision that combines traditional Buddhism with modern-day feminism and relational psychology, and suggests an alternative to the manic path of competition and consumption that much of the human race currently seems to be pursuing. The book also includes an extensive reader's companion with meditative exercises and other practices for those who want to explore the possibility of awakening together within their own communities.

I couldn't put it down and ended up reading it in an entire sitting! I've been to Romania and absolutely loved the stories about it. I would totally recommend this to anyone who ever was in missions. Bruce is a survivor and it is clear God had His hand of protection on him!

By Lauren Lovely... words, images and printing quality..."But is it an act, or a gradual process, this "putting off the old man?" It is both. It is a resolve taken once for all, but carried out in detail day by day. The first hour that the sap begins to withdraw, and the leaf-stalk begins to silt up, the leaf's fate is sealed: there is never a moment's reversal of the decision. Each day that follows is a steady carrying out of the plant's purpose: "this old leaf shall die, and the new leaf shall live." So with your soul. Come to the decision once for all: "every known sin shall go--if there is a deliverance to be had, I will have it." Put the Cross of Christ, in its mysterious delivering power, irrevocably between you and sinning, and hold on there. That is your part, and you must do it."--Lilias Trotter, Parables of the Cross

Devotion to God drawn from nature By Wife, Mother, Gardener This is a gem of a devotional!... in its paintings and the spiritually fulfilling lessons drawn directly from them. Written with botanical exactness, as only the British seem able to do, it spoke directly to my gardener's heart, encouraging me in full-hearted devotion to our Creator.Highly recommended for those who wish to slow & savor it!
