"Damage to nature goes against human dignity. If I do something against part of nature, I do something against humanity. But, at the same time, we can say that if we do something against men, we cannot say that we really love nature.” One of the most profound phrases in Pope Francis' new encyclical is actually a question. The Holy Father asks: "What kind of world do we want to leave to those who come after us, to children who are now growing up.

A Compelling, Eloquent and Moving Statement By The Peripatetic Reader The title Laudato Si’, means “Praise be unto you.” The title is taken from the writings of St. Francis of Assisi, the namesake of the author of this book, Pope Francis.St. Francis of Assisi used this phrase to praise the earth and all its creatures and features as an expression of God. Just as St. Francis referred to all living creatures as our “brothers” and “sisters,” the Pope issued this Encyclical to apply these sentiments to the modern day to address environmental degradation. This present book, Laudato Si’, is that Encyclical, a clear, passionate, devotional explanation for the modern world to realize the consequences of the degradation of the planet and a plea to cherish and rediscover the lost reverence and respect for the earth’s natural environment. This book is a book on the environment like no other. Rather than recommending short-term technological or political solutions, Pope Francis states that before cleaning the environment the human race must first clean its own inner house and change its own attitude to itself and others.Disrespect for the environment is an act, and any act originates from a mental attitude. If polluting the environment is the result of a human mental attitude, it would be simple for Laudato Si’ to simply say, “Don’t pollute.” Pope Francis however goes further: What are the psychological impulses and motivations behind that attitude? Here is where Laudato Si’ gets interesting. Pope Francis digs deep into the human psyche to identify the psychological drives which support an attitude and act to disrespect the environment. What the Pope believes may surprise the reader. Pope Francis characterizes the degradation of the environment not only as a crime against the planet and to all its inhabitants, but as a sin against God. God after all created the planet and the planet and all the creatures who live on the planet are God’s gift to Humankind. However, Pope Francis identifies other impulses and motivations which result in the disrespect for this planet. They include • Slavish infatuation with technology. Technology should assist the people which creates that technology and offer solutions to clean the environment. The reality is that technology only offers band-aid solutions to clean the environment and the technology invariably becomes the master of humans, not the other way around. • The insatiable appetite for profit and financial gain regardless to the consequences to the environment or to other people. • In his most innovative explanation for the root cause of pollution, the Pope identifies the “exultation of the Subject,” in other words that sense of individuality which only reinforces a division between man and nature. • Rampant, unbridled Consumerism, which treats every item produced as disposable impermanent object. • The desire to dominate, whether that domination is to another object or over another human being. The degradation of the environment, then, is not simply throwing your Coca Cola can out the window, but is symptomatic of the mental and spiritual maladies which plague the world. These maladies find expression not only in polluting the environment, but in other social ills. The Pope identifies income and wage disparity, social injustice, and poverty, to name a few.Pope Francis does not limit his discussion to environmental pollution. The Pope criticizes present-day excesses in neo-liberal ideologies, global capitalistic corporations, and free-market economies, all of which are also symptomatic of the same disrespect that leads to ravishing the environment. In the final analysis this is a book of literary beauty. The talking points in this review do little justice to the prosaic grace and devotional eloquence found in this book. It is a book that can be enjoyed on many levels. It is highly recommended.

Most beautiful version of Laudato Si that matches Ignatius Press' other encyclicals from Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis By Stuart Dunn It has been a little over three months since Pope Francis released his encyclical Laudato si'. People have read it and misread it; interpreted it and misinterpreted it, but it has been anything but ignored. A big reason for this is because of the "Francis effect," which is surprisingly still going fairly strong. The liberal media still are trying to convince us that he is going to "bring the Church into the 21st Century" with women priests and accepting same-sex unions. To that I say, "Never going to happen!" We can also see their spin in their "reading" of this encyclical. They chose to focus only on the part about the environment, and completely ignored Pope Francis' message of human ecology, which includes respect for all of humanity the evils of abortion. The encyclical is not addressed to just bishops or the lay faithful (like most all encyclicals), but is instead addressed to all people. It is divided into six chapters:1. What is Happening to our Common Home2. The Gospel of Creation3. The Human Roots of the Ecological Crisis4. Integral Ecology5. Lines of Approach and Action6. Ecological Education and SpiritualityThere are many good points in this document that it is hard to pick your favorite passage. In one part, Pope Francis reminds us that the earth was here before us and has been given to us. He makes it known though that this doesn't give us the right to abuse the earth, but we must treat it as a gift from God, because that is what it is. Another part I particularly like was when he addresses our technological "progress." He goes on to list important inventions of the past two centuries and the good it has accomplished. However, technology has also given us "tremendous power" in terms of nuclear energy, biological knowledge, and information technology that can easily be used for evil. We must therefore use technology as a tool to better people's lives and not a mere distraction or superficial object for our amusement. The last part I will discuss that I really like is where Pope Francis talked about us not putting the environment over people. It is all well and good to protect the earth and animals, but not at the expense of people. So while you can read this document for free online, it is quite long and I recommend you buy a copy to read and mark up, if you so wish. But which edition should you get, because nearly every Catholic publisher printed a copy? When it comes to encyclicals, I always get copies from two different publishers. The first one I get is the Ignatius Press version, because it is a beautiful hardcover and they have been publishing beautiful hardcover encyclicals since Pope Benedict XVI. Now, if only they would go back and print Pope John Paul II's also! The other version I get depends on which publisher provides supplemental material with their copy. Several did that this time, but I ended up with the Word Among Us Press version this time because of the study questions. The study questions proved helpful for individual and small group study with their release of Evangelii Gaudium, so I trusted that it would be the same for Laudato Si, and I was not disappointed! It's up to you which version to get, but my advice if you have the funds is to get both.

By Lea Black Pope Francis has wisdom borne from scientific research, testimonies, whatever resourxes he can tap, he does and the result is a very empassioned, sensible call for saving our planet. Wherher or not you are Catholic. All you need is a love for our planet and you will love this book.

Avoid By Thomas Smith This title of this book and the whole "amnesia" idea is lifted DIRECTLY from Graham Hancock's book Fingerprints of the Gods, in fact, Hancock has a lecture entitled "A Species With Amnesia". The content of these books is a rehash of other people's work, completely unoriginal. Furthermore, this author is obviously creating multiple Amazon accounts to leave favorable rankings and reviews on his books. Click on the hyperlinks of the names of the people leaving five star reviews; all of them have left reviews on Sepehr's books only, all 5-star, and most left on the same day! The author's credentials seem nonexistent, and with 5 minutes of research I could plainly see that the majority of praise for his work online is fake.

He weaves together current scientific facts, ancient myths, and dares to address what academia simply refuses to confront. This book was well researched, very informative and beautifully presented. I learned more from this book about our actual history regarding human origins than I did in all my years in school.

15 of 22 people found the following review helpful. waste of money By walter graham The author Robert Sepehr, put way too much emphasis on the swastika sign and way way WAY too much emphasis on the Aryan race. Without actually coming out and saying so, the author seemed somehow sympathetic to Hitler's 3rd reich agenda and importance of the Aryan race. I can see the importance of making mention of these things in order to make a point, but not again and again. I believe the Author is either running a facebook group called the Sumerians [...] or is supported by them because they were touting this book (species with amnesia) as something special so after reading it, I left my opinion of the book on the sumerian's wall. WELL! It seems to me, cowardly, that the person running The Sumerians group have not only blocked my comments, but made it impossible for me to contact them for inquiry. If your knees get wobbly from a little honest criticism, you shouldn't be writing books and pretending to be somebody. There are way better authors who cover these same topics and do a much better job (Graham Hancock, comes to mind. If you want a book with substance, written by a man with back bone,[...].

Nothing exciting happens on the Hill of Dust, in the remote mountains of Mexico in the 1950s. There's no electricity, no plumbing, no cars, just day after day of pasturing goats. And now, without his sister and mother, eleven-year-old Teo's life feels even more barren. And then one day, the mysterious young Esma, who calls herself the Gypsy Queen of Lightning, rolls into town like a fresh burst of color. Against all odds, her caravan's Mistress of Destiny predicts that Teo and Esma will be longtime friends. Suddenly, life brims with possibility. With the help of a rescued duck, a three-legged skunk, a blind goat, and other allies, Teo and Esma must overcome obstacles-even death-to fulfill their impossible destiny. Inspired by true stories derived from rural Mexico, The Lightning Queen offers a glimpse of the encounter between two fascinating but marginalized cultures--the Rom and the Mixtec Indians--while telling the heart-warming story of an unlikely friendship that spans generations.

From School Library Journal Gr 3–6—If books were written in black and white, The Lightning Queen would be written in color. Esma, a young Romani girl, meets Teo, a young Mixteco living on the Hill of Dust in the mountains of Mexico, when her traveling caravan makes a stop in Teo's small village. The Romani bring with them the magic of cinema films, and after the loss of Teo's father and sister, Esma gives him a reason to feel alive again. When Esma's grandmother, the Mistress of Destiny, reveals Teo's true fortune—that he and Esma will be lifelong friends and will save each other—Esma and Teo work hard to make sure their fortune comes true. Esma gives Teo the courage to save others and ultimately helps him to save himself. In return, Teo lifts Esma up just when she believes that her own dream is an impossibility. Esma and Teo go their separate ways; she becomes a shining star admired by the world, while he becomes a healer like his grandfather—and it is not until they are both in old age that they meet again. With the help of Teo's grandson Mateo and Esma's granddaughter Ruby, Teo and Esma rekindle their lifelong friendship. Like surviving a lightning strike, this book is rare and incredible. VERDICT The diverse characters, heartbreaking events, and historical and present-day backdrops are excellently executed. Highly recommended.—Selenia Paz, Helen Hall Library, League City, TX

By turns beautiful, funny, sweet, and mesmerizing, it tells a unique tale of two marginalized cultures--and two fiery-spirited children from those cultures--that form a lifelong bond. For kids and adults alike, I can't recommend this engaging story highly enough. All of Laura Resau's books are compelling reads, but this one may well be my favorite.

About the Author Smith Wigglesworth (1859–1947) was born in England in 1859. Immediately after his conversion as a boy, he had a concern for the salvation of others and won people to Christ, including his mother. He became a plumber by trade, yet he continued to devote himself to winning many people to Christ on an individual basis. In 1882, he married Polly Featherstone, a vivacious young woman who loved God and had a gift of preaching and evangelism. It was she who taught him to read and who became his closest confidant and strongest supporter. They both had compassion for the poor and needy in their community, and they opened a mission, at which Polly preached. Significantly, people were miraculously healed when Wigglesworth prayed for them.

In 1907, Wigglesworth's circumstances changed dramatically when, at the age of forty eight, he was baptized in the Holy Spirit. Suddenly, he had a new power that enabled him to preach, and even his wife was amazed at the transformation. This was the beginning of what became a worldwide evangelistic and healing ministry that reached thousands. He eventually ministered in the United States, Australia, South Africa, and all over Europe. His ministry extended to the time of his death in 1947.

There is something new every time I read a sermon over. I have read many other books of Wigglesworth and his sermons and this has to be at the top of the list. This compilation of sermons would have to be his greatest in print. There is advice for every situation I'm ever in and I have decided to refer to this book for the rest of my life (second to the bible of course). Last night I read a chapter and it was one of the most awesome times I have had with God for a long while. God is so wonderful. I praise God for sending a man like him to meet the spiritual needs we have in the 20th century setting, and I pray he will contunue to send great men of God like Wigglesworth. I can't even begin to tell you how much his ministery has touched me. "Ever Increasing Faith" is a book that every person, young or old, must read. It reveals to us our place in Christ and confronts every reader with a dare ---- a dare to believe.

48 of 48 people found the following review helpful. The keys to renewal, revival, and restoration are here. By Jeffrey E Ellis Smith Wigglesworth has been described as the "Apostle of Faith". This little book is evidence of the aptness of that description!Ever Increasing Faith is jam-packed with sermons, eye-witness accounts of his ministry, and reflections on God's goodness, grace and power.Wheelchair-bound children, old women with cancer, men deaf from birth, and thousands of others were miraculously healed by God during Wigglesworth's ministry. Seven people were raised from the dead, including Polly, Smith's wife. What is most touching though, is to see his humility, his passion to glorify God, and his earnest desire to be closer and closer to Christ. He was an empty vessel, desiring to be more and more filled with the Holy Spirit. God used him in mightier ways than any other twentieth century evangelist. His wife Polly taught him how to read and the Holy Spirit taught him how to preach. And preach he did, doing the work of God, bringing thousands around the world to the place of wonder, of healing, and to salvation. This book is a feast for anyone who is hungry for more of God.

If you are desiring an increase in faith and belief in God, this book is for you. I read it every single day The Holy Spirit is so alive in this book through this mans ministry, and the holy spirit is quickened and comes alive almost the same as the prophets in the bible. It is a great encourager and good supplement reading. The annointed wisdom is priceless,...!

A book for babies and their parents about the whole new world that they both encounter when the baby arrives. When the new baby arrives, both the baby and the parents are in for a steep learning curve. In this book, born out of personal experience, internationally renowned author/illustrator Isol brings us a dual narrative and guide. For babies, there’s a rich range of images of babies and all their functions to look at. From crying, to nursing, to peeing and pooing, to looking, to hearing, to deciding that this weird new world they’ve entered is worth staying in (because they finally recognize that in every grown-up they see there is a former baby), there are hours of fun and amusement, since babies love nothing better than looking at and talking about themselves. For parents, this is a wonderful exploration of the new world this stranger-baby brings with him or her. Amusingly written, the text presents in a humorous, wry way all the facets of the new baby’s reality. A great gift for new parents both before and after baby is born.

Review New York Times Notable Children's Books of the Year"Human biology is made fresh and magnificent again. The shocking perfection of our bodies and our mode of growing these bodies is celebrated." — New York Times"Tender and funny, a celebration of the hard work that takes place on both sides to settle the complicated little traveler into its new world." — Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books, starred review"The trope that imagines a baby as an exotic creature—or perhaps even an alien—is taken to full and nearly irresistible flower." — Kirkus Reviews"The book ends on a particularly affirmative note, recognizing our common baby origins and common human trajectories." — Horn Book Magazine"The house is peaceful. The neighborhood is silent. The cat, asleep. The people, busy with their own things.Days follow one another in an orderly way:after Tuesday, comes Wednesday.Until the Menino arrives." — from the book

It's part instruction manual for the older sibling, and part wry humor for the parent. Some of that will be lost on the preschool audience, but it does make it amusing to read aloud."Luckily, he has a very powerful siren that announces his needs. He comes with this so that even though he is tiny, you can always find where you left him. This siren is activated when you mustfeed the Menino, put the Menino to sleep, clean the Menino, play with the Menino, hug the Menino. It's fun trying to guess the right thing to do each time."At 54 pages, most of them with 6 or 7 lines of text, this is quite a lot of story for a picture book. The illustrations are quirky as well, primitive line drawings, many with offset red and black outlines that look like they might require 3-D glasses (they don't really.)My audience was a three-year-old who is expecting a new sibling this year, and although she didn't understand many of the humorous bits, the book did hold her attention.

It reads a bit like an interpretive field guide to babies, as prepared by a perceptive pre-K sociologist who is eager to document and share insightful, creative theories about the workings of Meninos. Peeing, pooping, breastfeeding, driving a tiny car out of the mother's belly, crying, tasting, teething, playing, talking, bathing - it's all covered, along with notes on the Menino's ability to evoke specific behaviors from people around him. This would be a delightful book to help prepare a preschooler for the impending realities, curiosities, and opportunities upon the birth of a new sibling.

Conveys precisely and with great charm all the love and upheaval involved with a new baby on the scene. I bought this for a friend (I read it first) and he loved it as much as I did.

Freedom is so important, yet many don't realize that they are enslaved by the very things that are supposed to give them hope and security. I hope that this book can open people's eyes and their minds.I also like the way Luciferian philosophy is explained so simply. Everyone should read this book, regardless of your religion!
