Andrea Sullivan is so consumed by her hospitality consultant job that she's forgotten what brings her joy. She dreads her new assignment—a last chance to snag a high-profile client in Scotland. Yet the lush Isle of Skye transcends her preconceptions. As does the man she must impress, the rugged, blue-eyed Scotsman James MacDonald. He's passionate about cooking but after six restaurants, four cookbooks, and his own television show, he's grown weary of the scrutiny that comes with living in the public eye. Soon Andrea and James begin to sense these five days in Skye together may just be God's wild invitation into deeper life ... and truer love.

By Molly When Becky Wade, author of My Stubborn Heart (and one of my favorite authors) recommended Five Days in Skye on her facebook page, I knew I needed to check it out. I immediately read the synopsis and reviews on Amazon, and then checked out the author Carla Laureano's website, and I was officially hooked. Okay, I'll be honest, I was pretty much hooked with the words Scotland and romance in the same sentence. That being said, this novel is exactly everything I wanted and wished for it to be. The story is a fast paced read, hence a literal five days in Skye, for these two people to fall in love. I didn't think it could happen, as I'm not a fan of quick romances in books, I like for the relationship to have time to culminate, but I was extremely surprised how perfect Andrea and James are, and found myself rooting from them from the start.A books that can make me laugh in the first paragraph or cry by the end are pretty rare, and this one made me do both. And oh, the beauty of Scotland! I have never been there myself (it's on my bucket list) but I feel like I have and could describe the Island of Skye to you perfectly. The mental illustration Carla Laureano paints for you is so lovely, you'll feel like Andrea and never want to leave.I could truly go on and on about how good this book is. A handsome Scotsman with that accent (I can only hear Gerard Butler's voice when James speaks), an American girl who is trying to make her way in a mans world, sub characters who you want to just sit on the sofa and hang out with, food that melts in your mouth, and a beautiful ancient land where romance just is.Ah, perfection.I was a tiny bit skeptical before I began because this is the authors first published novel, I wasn't sure what to expect. When I finished reading Five Days in Skye, I couldn't believe it was only her first novel! All I can say is, I hope there is a sequel, it becomes a series, anything to keep Andrea and James happening, because I love these two and I want more!Five stars all day long for Five Days in Skye!

Was it the terrific setting? Partially. Was it the Scottish celebrity chef, definitely. Was it Andrea herself who you could see (before she did) that she was bottling up so much pain, she needed a release? That too!The descriptions of Scotland and everything Andrea goes through, you can really visualize thanks to the writer. It was amazing, even for someone who has never been to Scotland, but after reading Five Days in Skye, I kind of feel like I have.I felt like I was with Andrea and James in the kitchen. Which at times was kinda awkward! But that makes for good storytelling.Andrea is all business and when the book starts, I'll admit I was really looking forward to her falling for James and to watch her walls crumble despite herself. This book did not disappoint!James is a charismatic charmer. And the author did a great job of painting this picture. The chemistry between him and the (at first) reluctant Andrea popped off the page. There's a message too about forgiveness, acceptance, and being able to move on. About being able to forgive yourself. All of which is incredibly important and potent. I'm sure someone will come along and be able to talk about that on length. But I'll just say this novel was stinking fun!Yes, I was moved emotionally by certain aspects of the book. And I rooted for Andrea and James from the very beginning. And if this novel was ever turned into a movie, I'd be first in line!If you buy it, you'll love it. If you read it, you won't regret it. And maybe along the way you'll learn something too.Bonus.

About halfway into the book, it started developing a Christian focus, which didn't bother me initially but the last few chapters really didn't seem to have much to do with the relationship between the characters as much as their feelings about their religion. Frankly it seemed odd that this appeared halfway through the book.I looked at the description of the book and didn't see anything that would lead me to expect a Christian romance novel. I was looking for a light romantic novel set in a destination that appeals to me...so I felt a bit let down. i think if you specifically wanted a Christian romance you might enjoy this one.
