Ten arctic animals on a sled and, on a wild ride down the mountain, all fall off one by one, except one very big lonely caribou at the bottom of the hill. The big excitement is the piling back on for another wild toboggan ride (which prompts a mandatory read again, of course). Each picture has a story within the story and the expressions on the animals are wonderful. We try to recycle our children's books regularly by donating to local book sales...However, I'm planning on holding on to this one. Definitely a great holiday gift!

It is NOT the full story and the condensed version completely misses the mark. Would have returned but it didn't seem worth the shipping costs.

Counting down By LonestarReader Patterned the preschool song "There Were Ten In The Bed", a group of 10 disparate animals pull a sled up a hill and take a wild ride down, falling off, one by one. This is a nice "count down" book with alliterative exits for each animal, the hare hopped off, the walrus whirled out, the sheep shot out, the wolf wiped out etc.Liza Woodruff has suggested the Northern Lights in the sky on the cover as Norman sets the story "on a sunlit night, 'neath a snowy moon."

Excellent for parents to read with their child By Dr. Mary Alvord As a psychologist who treats children and teens, I appreciate this well written book that explains important concepts such as empathy and understanding different points of view. This book is engaging, and is a great tool for parents to use with their children. Also, clearly emphasizes the critical message that empathy is something that can be taught, like any other skill! Empowering.

A great tool for combatting bullying and teaching our children the values we all share - kindness and understanding By Kathleen Nadeau, Ph.D. Dr. Glasser is a long-time child psychotherapist who is sensitively tuned in to the world our children live in, where bullying has become such a problem at school, on the playground, and, even worse, online. Her book is very timely and should be used by parents and teachers alike as a framework for teaching children kindness and understanding. We need more books like this!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Book needs editing. By Amazon Customer Bad editing. I know a lot of self-publishing writers don't invest in editing and it showed in this book. Some words had too large a space between them, some paragraphs where too big, and the writer info-dumped big time for 13 chapters. Speaking of the first 13 chapters, they should have been called a prologue because the actual story doesn't start until chapter 14 with the character London. Info-dumping is bad, the writer should have wove the information given in the first 13 chapters somehow into the story as it went or made a separate book about Ariella.

By Dex London Crane thought she'd discovered a treaure trove before realizing that what she and her friends had really stumbled upon was something more valuable - a portable to another world. I applaud the author's imagination and vivid storytelling. I look forward to reading book 2 of the Secrets of Artasia.

Well, not eat exactly…but swallow. Blech! Humans? Land animals are nasty. Whale does what God wants, but not without complaining. He’s an interesting contrast to Jonah, a man on the run from doing what God wants. Through Jonah’s three days in Whale, both Jonah and Whale learn an important lesson: trust in God and obey his commands.Implicit in this storyline is that obeying God may be uncomfortable and may get you made fun of. Whale is in severe tummy distress (wouldn’t you be?!) and gets teased by the other whales. Likewise, when we do what’s right for God, it may not always be the easiest or most pleasant thing and it may not be universally liked. About the Author St. Pio of Pietrelcina was born as Francesco Forgione in 1877 at Pietrelcina, Italy. At the age of five he reportedly decided to dedicate his life to God, becoming a novice of the Capuchin Friars ten years afterward with the customary vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. He received Holy Orders in 1910, and subsequently served many of the faithful as a spiritual director. Though he suffered a great deal both spiritually and physically, he always remained firm in the confidence of Jesus, Mary, and his Guardian Angel. Padre Pio was also a famed Stigmatist, and died on the twenty-third of September, 1968. He was canonized by Pope John Paul II in 2002, and his feast is celebrated on the twenty-third of September.

Ezechia Cardone, O.F.M. to encourage increased devotion to Christ.The short booklet begins and ends with a prayer and is divided into four parts accompanied by teachings. It also includes seventeen photographs of Father Pio. I find the booklet to be especially useful in adoration chapel but of course it can be used virtually anywhere at anytime.

The first 75% of the book was basically an overview of the Wiccan religion. Author uses Wicca and witchcraft interchangeably. Stresses the Wiccan rede. Huge reference guide regarding what things mean in dreams or visions.

You will not learn how to cast a circle, you will not learn how to celebrate any sabbats or moon rituals. It is very basic and I am sorry I wasted my money.

Level-headed Imelda Handles Fairies and a Goblin By Pop Bop The thing about picture books, to me, is that you don't often find a book in which both the text and the drawings work. Once you add fairies, goblins and a fairytale plot, well the odds really start to head underwater. That's not the case here; it all works, with a consistent and engaging tone to the storytelling and vivid inviting illustrations.If you look closely at the cover and any sample pages you might have available to you, you'll see right off that we aren't in Maxfield Parrish land or some other oddly unsettling Victorian fairies-in-the-garden world. Briony Smith's fairies come in all shapes, styles, colors, genders and hairstyles. Most of them have human form, but I definitely saw a blue Martian fairy guy, and a couple of them looked like they were made from mismatched parts. The goblins were all green, sharp toothed, pointed nosed nasties, which worked well. So, right off the bat we have an edgy and idiosyncratic approach to the drawings.The main characters are well conceived and presented. Our heroine Imelda is the essence of virtue, steadfastness and sly cunning in the service of good. She looks like every young girl heroine should look, and I would expect her to attract every little reader's sympathy. The Fairy Queen is a pink-cheeked virtuous Earth Mother who actually feels a bit regal. And the Goblin King? He's toothy and clawed and dangerous looking, and if truth be told, a little scary. He might actually unnerve your littlest readers, so be forewarned.But get this. Putting aside the pictures, the story is well told. The text is direct and straightforward. No words are wasted and the narrative has tremendous momentum. The tone is always consistent; by that I mean we don't switch from dreamy to wordy to cryptic to childish. In this telling, the story is crisp and clear, the bullying Goblin King's comeuppance is a result of his own greed and is measured and fair, and the moral and the ending are satisfying. The book isn't preachy, but there are lessons here, and they aren't weird or confused. (As an extra treat, there are a few sly little jokes hidden here and there for Mom and Dad's amusement, or for pointing out to little readers.)So, whether you want a book that's pretty and fun to look at or a story that's gripping and a little bit scary, or a whole book that combines the best of both, this strikes me as a very nice possibility.(Please note that I received a free advance will-self-destruct-in-73-days Adobe ecopy of this book in exchange for a candid review. Jennings First I should note that the preschooler I was reading to was given a stack of about eight books to choose from, and this is the one she picked. The illustrations are bright, complex, detailed, and adorable. There are about three sentences on each page, and the type is clear enough and large enough so early readers can pick out words. There's enough going on in the pictures that children who dont read yet can still describe what's happening. The story is fairly simple, Imelda loves playing with the fairies in the forest and all is well until the goblin king, a nasty, rude bully, descends on their peaceful enclave. They try being nice to him to see if he will respond in kind, and not only does he behave horribly, he steals away the fairy queen as well. He gets his come-uppance when the fairies turn him into a worm....or rather, allow him to turn HIMSELF into a worm. If he'd been nice, they'd have served him one slice of the harmless portion of the pie. But no, he just grabs the whole thing and devours it....and half of it is made from turn-you-into-a-worm berries. With the goblin king vanquished, the goblins over whom he reigns rejoice, and join the fairy community to live, presumably, happily ever after.Loved the story, the illustrations, and the message---try first to be kind, but if that doesn't work, sometimes a confrontation is necessary.

Every other page has a cute four-line poem describing a certain animal and the following page reveals an animal covering its eyes until the child opens the flap and the animal is fully revealed ("Peek-a-boo!").It's a great way for children to hear the characteristics of an animal ("brown fuzzy fur" or "big and gray"), challenge the child to guess what animal it could be, and surprise them with a beautifully drawn revelation.My 3 year-old loves to hold the book while I read it to her and open the peek-a-boo flaps. The colors, pictures, and interactive nature would appeal to toddlers of all ages.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. The best book on Nostradamus I have read By Ronnie Lee Although I haven't read all the quatrains, the ones I have read were really profound. I enjoyed reading this translation of Nostradamus's prophecies especially seeing some of them come true whilst reading it in 1999 and 2000, if my memory serves me correctly. It is wonderfully written with excitement and wisdom. It is a good book to buy on Nostradamus for anyone who is interested in understanding his work and life.

By Bill Anderson At about 288 pages, this is a terrific bargain for the content. Stll, for this sort of content, I'm thinking the print version might be more appreciated, simply because of the need to go back and forth, as one would an encyclopedia.That suggestion is not meant to denigrate the efforts of the publisher. I am glad I did purchase my copy and will refer to it from time to time, while traveling (staying in hotels or while flying those long international flights.I also want to point out, the quatrains I have read are the same as my older, antiquarian version. For me, this is important, as some publishers are known to be attempting to write modern predictions of recent events, then claiming they are copies of prophecies by Nostradamus.Bottom line? This is a good Kindle version that you can buy with confidence without making a major expenditure. Indeed, this is a good Kindle version of the Original version, worth the selling price many times over.

It is a little difficult to get at first seeing as the prophecies are arranged by dates rather than the time they were written. Either way for the price it is a good read to pass time for a week or if you're a fan then as a collectible.

An appendix, more than 50 pages long, explains, categorizes, and describes a more complete list of 68 “fruitful” practices for evangelism and church planting in Muslim settings.This readable and encouraging book would be a great resource for church planters to read and discuss with teammates. It may also be of interest to future church planters, students, missiologists, and supporters. The Tallit / Prayer Shawl Originally the word meant "gown" or "cloak." This was a rectangular mantle that looked like a blanket and was worn by men in ancient times. At the four corners of the tallit tassels were attached in fulfillment of the biblical commandment of fringes (Num. 15:38–41). The tallit was usually made either of wool or of linen (Men. 39b) and probably resembled the ("blanket") still worn by Bedouin for protection against the weather. The tallit made of finer quality was similar to the Roman Arch-Bishop Vestment and was worn mostly by the wealthy and by distinguished rabbis and scholars (BB 98a). The length of the mantle was to be a handbreadth shorter than that of the garment under it (BB 57b). After the exile of the Jews from South-Western Israel and their dispersion, they came to adopt the fashions of their gentile neighbors more readily. The tallit was discarded as a daily habit and it became a religious garment for prayer; hence its later meaning of prayer shawl. The Tallit, Tallith, Tallis, Talis also known as the Prayer Shawl. Tal meaning Tent, ith meaning Little join them to get Tallith as Little Tent. The Tallit (Modern Hebrew) Yiddish pronounced Tah-lis is a Prayer Shawl. It is a rectangular shaped piece of linen or wool with special fringes called Tzitzit on each of the four corners. The whole purpose of the garment is to hold the Tzitzit. (Fringe). The prayer shawl, tallit is a religious symbol, a garment, shroud, canopy, cloak which envelops the body physically and spiritually, in prayer and celebration in joy and in sorrow. The Tallit is a special personal religious garment worn and used for many years or a lifetime and never discarded. The Tallit is treated with the utmost respect, as if it had a mantle of holiness, acquired from years of use. What punishment is worthy of death? How about the commandment to Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it holy. We will see how one man’s disobedience to the Law of the Sabbath brought forth the Tallit (Prayer Shawl). In the Levitical Law there are many laws that if broken are punishable unto death. The commandment that is relevant for this book is Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it holy Exodus 20:8-11. 8Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10But the seventh day [is] the sabbath of the LORD thy God: [in it] thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that [is] within thy gates: 11For [in] six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them [is], and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. The story goes as while in the wilderness one Sabbath day, there was a man found gathering stick which was unlawful. This man was apprehended taken to Moses and the Priest to see what should be done to this man. Moses made intercession with G-d and was ordered to stone the man to death. One could argue the man forgot it was the Sabbath Day he was out collecting the sticks to store in his tent. During that time the commandments were fresh in the minds of the people. They had witnessed many blessings and many curses. So let’s see what happened!

Most people that want a deeper understanding of the shawl know what the scripters say and are looking for more background from history. The Secret of the Ballet Book By Chandra Uwins The Secret of the Ballet Book is a beautifully written story about a young girl, Sierra following her aspirations against the expectations of her parents.The story includes interaction with various characters who help her on her way to fulfilling her potential and achieving her dream to become a Ballerina.There are many twists and turns and magic to keep the reader interested.Navita Dello's writing style is easy to follow and perfect read for the younger generation.I have read this story with my daughter who was so excited and enjoyed following the experience of the Sierra. The book would make a great read to any collection.It's a great book with a positive message; to follow ones dreams.
