When Allen's mom asked him what he had learned at school that day, Allen couldn't really answer her. Why? The teacher had been asking the children and discussing the subject of Mother's Day. When asked to share what was special about his mom, Allen had gone first as that was really easy. However, what gift to give her was a little harder? He even asked his dad for ideas.When inspiration hit, Allen got to work but sadly his first idea didn't work so what did he do then? You'll have to read this cute story to find out. LOTS of illustrations make this book a great read for young kids. Great as a read aloud or for older, independent readers. Sweet, sweet story. Thanks, Liz

This is not a logical problem-solving approach that requires hard work or effort. Instead, the Infinite Release process works through a trinity of three carefully-crafted intentions that result in an infinite loop that drops all disharmonious elements in one's life. The end result of invoking the Infinite Release process is the creation of an infinite loop that erases all the unconscious blocks / memories that are not in harmony with our higher intentions. Once we are clear from these unconscious beliefs and memories that hold us back, we are free to perceive life from the perspective of the Universe, where manifestations are spontaneous and nothing needs to be changed.

He shares techniques that promote genuine expansion not just rehashed versions of other people's words that keep you feeling stuck. By Deb Two cars quickly filled with young white men, “a group of basketball players who thought they were the best in the state of North Carolina.” No doubt they were among the best, but they were clueless as to the style and presence of their opponents until they later hit the basketball court. The game would be secret and even the players themselves didn’t know who they would play. It was a secret that would be kept for decades, one that these young players would always remember. Members of the Duke University Medical school team were prepped to play, but just who were their opponents?As they were driven through the seedy back streets of Durham, “they covered the windows with quilts so they wouldn’t be seen.” When they exited the cars they “pulled their coats over they heads and walked through the women’s locker room into a gymnasium.” Their faces were tentative and for good reason. In 1944 the consequences for “race mixing” were serious, so serious that anyone caught doing it could be put to death. Before them stood five of the Eagles, from the North Carolina College of Negroes and their coach, John McLendon.Segregation had kept them apart because the Eagles “were prohibited from playing against white teams,” but today prohibition would be set aside ... there would be a game. They looked at one another and only saw one thing and that was a basketball game. The game began slowly, clumsily for some of them had “never been this close to a person of a different color” and they “were hesitant to touch or bump into one another.” It wasn’t long before they forgot about color and began to make their moves, erupting into a flurry of activity on the court. Just what would happen on that court that would change the course of history?This is the amazing story of a “secret game” of basketball that young readers will love. The tale is about a little-known game that proved that race doesn’t really matter when it comes to sports. What really mattered was all of the young men loved the game and could learn about each other on the court. I loved the pacing of the tale, the build-up of tension that walked me right onto that court as the members of the Duke University Medical School Team and the North Carolina College of Negroes Eagles sized one another up. It would almost seem unimaginable to young people today that there was such extreme racism. It’s through books such as this one they will learn. The men from Duke University Medical School knew they were playing a game, but had no idea until they arrived, that they were playing an African American team at the North Carolina College of Negroes. Coach John McLendon had arranged the game, even though he knew he could face death if the local Ku Klux Klan got wind of his actions. The game started slowly, but pretty soon McClendon’s team started to dominate. The final score was 88-44, North Carolina College of Negroes. The teams then mixed it up to make things more even, playing shirts versus skins. Afterwards, the Duke team members visited the other team’s dorm and sat around talking basketball. For years, no one ever knew about the game for fear of reprisals. John McLendon went on to win three national titles at Tennessee State, and was the first African American coach inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. 32 pages; grades 1-5.Pros: A fascinating and powerful story about one man’s contributions toward ending racism and promoting greater understanding. The illustrations have plenty of great basketball action and grow more colorful as the story unfolds.Cons: The less colorful illustrations on the first several pages, combined with the typewriter-like font, made an unappealing combination. The second half was better visually.

Saben It is so rare to find a well-told, beautifully illustrated story of someone who was willing to sacrifice great earthly artistic potential for the sake of Christ. Lilias Trotter sets an admirable example, and she was not disappointed. I highly recommend this book!

Lily: The Girl Who Could See By David Rainey From the time she was five years old to the end of her life, Lily: The Girl Who Could See, gives us a brief pictorial jaunt through the life of Lilias Trotter (1853-1928). Through the years, we see Lily develop both in her artistic abilities and in her relationship with God.Lily was a gifted artist. John Ruskin, the famous English art critic, was Lily's art teacher. He encouraged her to devote her life to art, but Lily chose a different path: she decided to give her all to God by serving the people of Algeria in North Africa.The beautiful illustrations are color paintings done by Tim Ladwig. They are truly a visual delight. This is a great picture book that will leave readers wanting to learn even more about the fascinating life of Lilias Trotter.

Wish there were more children's books out there like this for christians. Lilias Trotter has been a long time favorite of mine and so glad to see her story in a childrens book. You won't be disappointed if you get this for a special child in your life. Rich illustrations and well written.
