"Children will be eager to attend this magical slumber party."—School Library Journal"Allyn’s digitally created illustrations have the warmth of acrylic paintings, and she gives her ethnically diverse young cast round faces, gleaming eyes, and fuzzy heads of hair. From School Library Journal PreS-K—This is a clever picture book filled with fun references to traditional nursery rhymes. Mother Goose, master storyteller, is the hostess of this party. "They gathered in the reading nook/with Mother Goose's famous book./She read of those who sat beside her,/Dish and Spoon and Muffet's spider./She read of those who were not there,/like Simple Simon at the fair./She read of ships and seas they roam./She read until Peep's sheep came home." A big plus is the inclusion of the traditional characters' rhymes at the back of the book. The multicultural coed cast created with digital artwork gives the figures a modern look and feel. The bright, realistic, and colorful illustrations, which frequently span across a spread, capture the business and grandeur of the party itself. Children will be eager to attend this magical slumber party. VERDICT Nursery rhymes lovers will enjoy this witty adaptation.—Gwen Collier, Buffalo and Erie County Public Library, NY

I was overjoyed to see this new title as it represents yet another opportunity for young readers to learn the classics. The author pays homage to 15 classics, all wrapped up in a brand new story that will appeal to every toddler or preschooler. The rhyming is fast paced and well written, creating a smooth read aloud flow that makes this an excellent choice for a sleepy themed story time or a bedtime read.Mother Goose has called all of her favorite characters to her house for story time, and we get to follow the cow, dish and the spoon, along with Jack be Nimble and Jack-a-Dandy as they gather together their things to head to her house. Wee Willie Winkie is coming, along with Bo Peep, and that Contrary Mary, Miss Muffet's spider is also there, and they all get to listen to MG's tales of faraway lands. When it's time to say goodnight, Mother Goose puts them all to bed as the stars spell out Good Night. The text is clever and the rhyming is perfect as befits a Mother Goose story. But Wait! This book isn't done yet! After the story is done, you get a full text of each of the fifteen rhymes featured in the story. The illustrations have a classic, timeless feel and with the addition of the original rhymes, this turns this book into the complete package. I love everything about this one, and if you are looking for one toddler book to give this Christmas, you can't go wrong with Mother Goose's Pajama Party. This is a whimsical treat that will keep on giving and is an enthusiastic recommend.

By Carrie Charley Brown When I grew up, Nursery Rhymes were a huge part of my very first reading encounters. This book is a great excuse to bring back the forgotten tales that do not always get passed on to children in current times. I think it would be more meaningful to start with the original tales before walking children through this unique story involving a full cast of nursery rhyme characters. (About 16!) Little did I know that each original tale would be included in the back matter of the book. Brilliant! Personally, I would start there first, and allow children to get to know the characters before moving on to the tale of the pajama party. It will make the story more meaningful and allow the child to make text to text connections and comparisons. The illustrations are enchanting. I especially love the page featuring all of the characters walking to the party. Then, the contrast and white space in the black and white crooked mile. (I’ll call it Alice in Wonderland-esque.) Characteristic of the original nursery rhymes, Mother Goose’s Pajama Party is told is rhyme, as well. I would definitely recommend this as a wonderful addition to every bedroom and pre-k/kindergarten classroom.

Every child would love to get a message inviting them to story time at Mother Goose's house. What a fantastic place that would be. With the magic of books children can be in that wonderful place. Eating cake and wearing comfy jammies Mother Goose's children get to have story time before settling down for the night with a tuck and a kiss. Makes me want to be there, too! Surprise, the story doesn't end. Mother Goose's rhymes make an appearance in the back of the book so her tales can be learned and refresh the memories of those who already know them. The art is so beautiful and dynamic! This is a great paring of author and artist. Any child who gets this book as a gift will be thrilled.
