It's a beloved tale: young David rises from the obscurity of the shepherd's field to seize the throne of Israel. But what is often forgotten is that as David walked away from Samuel with the anointing oil still dripping from his head, his royal destiny would not be fulfilled for over twenty years. Drawing from the examples of David and his own experiences, Joshua L. McElhaney speaks to the heart of the young minister. Using illustrations from the life of one of Israel's greatest kings, he demonstrates the importance patience, trust, and submission in developing godly attitudes and strong ministries. In the journey of this book, you will see how the successes, influence, and greatness of David's kingship weren't defined by how he handled the throne. His achievements came from how he handled the cave... Published by Kindom Publisher (.com)

Scott Ingram Joshua McElhaney has written an excellent book for those of us in, and those looking towards, Christian ministry as a full-time vocation. The calling of God on the life of an individual does not work the same way as a professional career or climbing the corporate ladder. Instead we are called to humble ourselves, serve anywhere we can, and honor those in leadership above us until God promotes us in His timing. Using the life of Israel's King David as his example, Joshua teaches us that our focus on the journey from cave to palace cannot be one of self-promotion. Instead it is about going deeper in our prayer life, developing our character and integrity, and growing in our relationship with the Lord through His Word and in the Holy Spirit. This will be a book I recommend to the men and women I disciple in ministry for years to come.
