A must-read for every concerned American--and especially for every Christian who weeps at the graveside of his culture. --R.C. SproulA cataclysmic change has occurred as our culture has shifted toward belief in "Oneism."Every religion and philosophy fits into one of two basic worldviews: "Oneism" asserts that everything is essentially one, while "Twoism" affirms an irreducible distinction between creation and Creator. The Other Worldview exposes the pagan roots of Oneism, traces its spread throughout Western culture, and demonstrates its inability to save."For bodily holiness and transformed thinking . . . we depend entirely on one amazing thing: the incredibly powerful message of the Gospel to a sinful world, which is the ultimate expression and goal of Twoism. The only hope is in Christ alone."

Dr. Jones describes how the Bible teaches there are only two religions in the world, monism and Christianity. Jones shows how the Bible in Romans describes these two worldviews and how people will turn to the worship of nature (the creation and monism) if they reject worship of the Creator. Peter shows us how this principle is being played out globally as the worship of nature and the ancient pagans gods is returning to our advanced intellectual culture that has rejected worship of the Creator.Peter describes how Carl Jung played a critical role in the acceptance of pagan religions by modern cultures through the introduction of transpersonal psychology. Jones describes how Freud broke with Jung when he pursued the spiritual dimension of psychology and opened the door for the acceptance of the "sophisticated" worship of the ancient pagan gods via his views on archetypes. Jones then ties this psychological link to pantheistic monism and how it became the driving force in the 60s sexual and cultural revolution.Peter reveals how we are still feeling the impact of that cultural revolution with the recent decision by the Supreme Court on homosexual marriage rights. Jones gives us a historical overview of the nature of the cultural and spiritual war we are involved in. He describes how in many ways we have returned to similar spiritual conditions that prevailed during the Roman Empire with its diverse multiculturalism and monistic views of reality. Peter reveals how the worship of many gods and the state fosters an intolerance for Christianity because the Bible teaches the total sovereignty of Jesus - not Caesar or the government. Christianity is also considered intolerant because it teaches there is only one way to God - through Jesus. Peter describes why Christianity is unique and how only the incarnated God could save us from our sins. He also reveals a deeper understanding of what holiness means in light of God's nature in contrast to Eastern views of deity. This is a really well written book. it gives the reader an overview of the culture war we are involved in and describes where we are headed globally. Peter gives us a historical sketch of the monistic worldview and how it is quickly displacing the Christian foundations of Western civilization. The only weakness I found within the book is that it presents the ramifications from an Eastern monistic worldview quite well. However, effective solutions to the problem are not presented in the depth I would like to have seen. In particular I wish Peter addressed the current theological ideas that have rendered the church impotent to confront this worldview. In America we have less than 2% of the perverted population ruling over the confessing Christians that some surveys reveal make up 80% or more of our population. We clearly have a church leadership problem that needs to be addressed. This is where the real culture war for the future lies. We need a spiritual reawakening globally but history shows that the most resistance will actually come from the leadership within our churches. I highly recommend this book. It is a great teaching tool for both Sunday School classes and for seminaries. Buy a copy for your pastor and bring him up to speed on what is happening with the spiritual battle for Western Civilization.

By Nathan Parker Disclaimer: Faithlife Corporation/Kirkdale Press/Lexham Press (the publisher of this book) gave me a free electronic copy of this resource in exchange for writing this review.Peter Jones’ resource on The Other Worldview is an excellent treatment of where the breakdown in our nation (and around the world) has occurred as a result from moving away from a biblical worldview to a worldview of “oneism” and paganism/pantheism. Additionally, Dr. Jones gives some solid, biblical steps on how to transform the thinking of our nation back onto a biblical worldview and back onto a firm foundation in the distinction between creature and Creator. This book was a major eye opener for me on when and where our society “derailed” (as Dr. Jones would describe it) and how we can begin taking steps to get back onto the right track and the right worldview “train” before our society experiences a major worldview catastrophe. I HIGHLY recommend this resource for anyone and everyone to read. Pastors and ministry leaders need to read this. Students and professors in colleges and seminaries need to read this. Christians need to read this. Even non-Christians need to read this. Our politicians should read this (I have already recommended this resource to my governor, attorney general, and state and national congressmen). Even Donald Trump should read this (if he really wants to know the true secret of “making America great again”). This resource is such a timely and needed book for our age, and everyone needs to stop what they are doing, pick this book up, and read it. I am deeply thankful for the opportunity to have been given a chance to read this book. I didn’t want to put it down when reading it, and I know of no other book on the issue our nation and the world is experiencing in terms of a worldview crisis that is so spot on as this one. I will continue to recommend this book to everyone and anyone I encounter, as it is a vital read for our society today.

It is the catch-all term for how the sum of what we believe drives our response to the universe around us. Many of the books on worldview you will find suggest that worldviews are as numerous as the people who hold them—that there are millions of options for a worldview.Peter Jones’ work The Other Worldview presents a different take on the idea. His concept is that there are not an infinite number of worldviews. Instead, he posits the existence of exactly two worldviews. These are oneism and twoism. That’s it. The former is the view of a universe that is self-existent and self-sustaining while the latter sees the universe as requiring the existence of a transcendent, personal God to create it.That may sound simple and you may be wondering why it takes 250 pages to say that. First, Jones works to delineate the two possibilities of worldviews. From there, he works out how twoism is supported through Christian theology. After this, he explains how this affects our actions as Christian believers.Throughout the work, the reader sees contrasts between the two ideas as Jones demonstrates how oneism falls short of reality. He also works through how most of the world’s other religions have their roots in the idea of a self-contained universe rather than acknowledging a transcendent God. Most of the discussion of how Christianity better reflects twoism than the other monotheistic religions is relegated to the endnotes. That there are endnotes instead of footnotes is certainly regrettable, as many of them are valuable tangents to consider. And the reader would be better served to have them handy in footnotes.Jones rightly highlights the danger that the shift in worldviews has brought to most of Western culture. His solutions are sprinkled throughout the book and even though they are somewhat predictable, they remain timely. Whether or not we will heed them is our own choice. The Other Worldview would fit for a serious student of culture or religion, and will take some mental effort to read. The results are worth the effort, though, as Jones will help clarify some of the issues at hand in the worldview shift we see around us.
