Poor execution and rendering of the Kindle editions of books is a problem endemic with Amazon, the producer of Kindle. This has nothing to do with the content or quality of the original book itself. Andrew Soltis generally writes good chess books. In fact this books treats a topic which gets scant treatment in the chess literature. Certainly there are no books entirely devoted to extensive coverage of the topic of exchanging that I am aware of. In that regard this is a welcome and important addition to the chess literature.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. The best kind of chess book By Daniel I bought this on a whim being oversupplied with opening books lately. It's a real gem: one of those chess books that you can read like a page turner.Entire games are given, if you want to play though them, and helpful diagrams show the key positions so well that you can follow without a board for the most part if you're able to envision a couple of moves in sequence.Lessons are divided into themes such as QxQ, RxR, B vs. N, etc. and further subdivided into motifs which can be read through in a minute or two each, so that you can pick it up at any time for a couple of minutes or read a whole chapter if you have an hour.I can't praise the examples given too highly. Soltis has really compiled a quality collection of games to make each point, drawing from the classics to the very recent. Kramnik and Karpov feature prominently, as they were masters of exchange and building initiatives, but there are lots of others. This is really the kind of rare chess book (like Silman's) where you pick up much more than the actual lessons by osmosis and that is such a pleasure to read that you will probably read it twice at least.

7 of 13 people found the following review helpful. it is horrible to navigate By Green-Machine i got the kindle edition since they were out of stock; it is horrible to navigate; you never know whether you missed a page or not. Answers to the quiz questions at the end of each chapter have yet to be found by me. WAIT for the paper copy. Soltis is a very good writer, but the kindle ed is too disjointed and disorganized to get anything out of the material. Forget the kindle version and get the hard copy. You will be glad you did.
