11 of 11 people found the following review helpful. beautiful nature of God's redemption By Laurie Tomlinson This is perhaps the follow-up novel I've most anticipated in this genre after Carla Laureano's first, FIVE DAYS IN SKYE, resonated with me so much. LONDON TIDES delivers with the author's deep characterization, vivid descriptions, and plot lines that pull no punches. The story takes readers to the cityscape of London and features a cast of characters with an authenticity that can only come from an author who has done her homework. Many would say this novel tackles tough issues, especially compared to much of inspirational fiction, but I'd say it tackles REAL issues, representing post-traumatic stress disorder, struggling to find where one belongs, and reconciling faith with the ingrained habits of a troubled past. That's what makes Carla Laureano such a fresh voice in inspirational fiction, because she's not afraid to break down cliches and show the far-reaching, beautiful nature of God's redemption.

By Tracey~book corner fan Having loved Five Days in Skye, I was thrilled when I came across London Tides, book two in the McDonald Family Trilogy. The story centers around Grace Brennan, a conflict photojournalist and Ian McDonald, a Scottish businessman. Ten years previous they had been engaged. Ian gives up his rowing career and dreams of Olympic gold, believing the time required would tax their upcoming marriage too much.(I love him already) Grace, younger and somewhat immature, has dreams of her own, to capture through her photography the inhumanity of war and the pain it causes. She foolishly chooses her career over a life with Ian, walking away without so much as an explanation or goodbye. Even though she earns worldwide recognition for her work, she realizes her mistake and returns to London hoping for a second chance at love. There is a haunting beauty to Grace. She suffers flashbacks as a result of all the horrors she has experienced. Yet it would seem she is more comfortable in a war zone, in physical danger, than when required to be emotionally vulnerable.Ian believes he has moved on from his time with Grace and is initially wary of her motives for being back in London. It doesn't take long after he begins to spend time with her for him to realize the ten years they were separated has not diminished his love for her. It's almost unbelievable he could move beyond his own hurt and abandonment to hoping for a relationship with Grace again, yet he can and does.A pleasant return trip to Skye is woven in as Ian and Grace attend the wedding of his brother James and his fiancé Andrea. Lots of romantic moments in that setting, although not without some challenges.London Tides has inspirational undertones that are subtle and subdued, but the themes of unconditional love and forgiveness are the essence of the Greatest Love there is.I thoroughly enjoyed Grace and Ian's story, wanting at the same time to read fast to see what would happen, and to read slow to savor the ending. Carla Laureano is a talented author whose writing style has me on the edge of my seat waiting for book three!

I thought there would never, ever be a better book than Five Days In Skye..then along came Book Two in the MacDonald Family Tilogy. "London Tides" had me on the first page, and kept me locked into the story until the final words. Carla Laureano has written a beautiful story, once again. The characters are truly believable, the storyline is packed with emotion, excitement, twists and turns and I didn't want to put the book down! There is absolutely nothing predictable..its full of surprises and unexpected turns. A love story that you really get drawn into. You feel the emotions of Ian and Grace so vividly as they struggle to overcome the past and move into the future that is before them. AWESOME BOOK! Very anxious for book three.
