2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. action packed By Christine Wainwright We couldn't put this series down my boys loved it! I got the first book and had to buy the next, when we finished that after only a few nights, I had to get the last book and it wasn't out yet! Luckily it was only a couple of weeks before it was due out. I think the boys were counting down the days! We were not disappointed! Now we are just sad there are no more books to get!

My 11-year-old daughter was enjoying this series & since some of the character's choices bothered her & some of the concepts confused her, I thought I'd start reading & try to catch up so we could discuss it together. I figured if it was wrought with mistruths, this would give me the chance to shed light on it for her as well. Instead, I began to rather enjoy the story & characters myself & I soon surpassed her, finishing the Poet's Storm just a few minutes ago. The trilogy was well written (this coming from a former English major), although adult readers & reviewers should expect it to be palatable for younger readers - it's not Tolstoy (thankfully!). The themes are amazingly deep for a young adult novel & the parallels between Christ & the Author unmistakeable, though you should not expect every parallel to hold, nor should the novel be read as a Bible study on spiritual warfare, the end times, etc (this coming from a pastor's wife). It is a safe read for kids (coming from a mom), though the battle scenes are graphic & you may want to consider reading it with younger kids for that reason. Something that I particularly liked was that though the younger characters were quite human & had moments of sass & arrogance, those characteristics were neither glorified nor long lasting. The young characters were not the only heroes & overall their was due respect toward elders. Humility was expressed as a virtue throughout. While my true rating would have been 4 1/2 stars if it had been available, I realized I lean closer to 5 than 4, thus the 5 stars. Enjoy!
