About the Author St. Alphonsus Liguori was born in 1696 to Neapolitan nobility at Marianella, Italy. He became a widely respected lawyer after completing law school at just sixteen, but later left his practice to give his salvation more attention. Alphonsus joined the Oratory of St. Philip Neri as a seminarian and was ordained in 1726, when he was thirty. The powerful homilies he gave were known for their profound ability to convert those who had fallen away from the faith. He also founded the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer and authored works such as The Glories of Mary, The True Spouse of Jesus Christ, Attaining Salvation, The Blessed Virgin Mary, Preparation for Death Abridged, What Will Hell Be Like?, The Twelve Steps to Holiness and Salvation, and The Way of the Cross. After being a bishop for over a decade, St. Alphonsus Liguori died on the first of August, 1787. He was canonized by Pope Gregory XVI in 1839 and declared a Doctor of the Church in 1871. His feast is celebrated on August 1.

After I read this 32 page pamphlet, I bought 75 more and inserted them with the Christmas cards I sent out this past year. I wanted family and friends to read this! St. Alphonsus is the patron saint of moral theologians and this books is brilliant. To really understand the meaning and purpose of life, this book is a must. It's as if everything has become clear. I cannot recommend this booklet enough!

The third step of the 12-step programs "Turned my will and my life over to the care of God, as I understood Him" and the eleventh step states "sought through prayer and meditiation to improve my conscious contact with God, as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out". This pamphlet provides a great insight into how our will and God's will need to become one will, not a compromise of the two.The greatest lesson I learned from this pamphlet was in the second sentence of it, "The principal effect of love is to unite the wills of those who love each other is to make them will the same things". For a lot of years I thought it was a compromising of wills so that sometimes we do what I think is right and at other times what my spouse thinks is right for us.Finally, if your goal in life is to obtain some serenity, St. Alphonsus writes, "Acting according to this pattern (i.e. living out God's will for us) one not only becomes holy but also enjoys perpetual serenity in this life". I don't know about you but "perpetual serenity" sounds pretty good to me!

BROWN I recently prayed to God for something i desired all my life and God said No.I was disappointed but i was determined to continue Trusting God Now i was.more determined to know Him so as i was reading about accepting God's will i came across this pamphlet , small yet packed with so much knowledge about God's will and mine. Every single sentence says so much. I have not finished reading it because as i read i meditate on what i have learned and reflect on my life. Now i desire nothing more than to learn and trust God. He knows what's best for me. AN EXCELLENT BOOK.
