Tybolt’s a Deviant, a hated race immune to direct magic in a world where Wizards ensure survival. But when he loses his entire family to a spell-made storm he joins an elite group of Wizard hunters, organized beneath the new non-magic wielding king. Now eighteen, he spends his days capturing Wizards. But the nights are his, reserved to feed the starving villagers of Eriroc under cover of dark. There’s always more people in need than he can help, and one of these days he’s going to hang for theft from the royal kitchens. Although Tybolt and his fierce partner, Auriela, have imprisoned many Wizards, the one partially responsible for the storm that killed Tybolt’s family is still out there: Alistair. When an old informant claims to have information regarding their elusive prey, everything changes. In a cruel twist, Tybolt realizes he isn't who he thought he was at all. How can he save himself, the people, and those he loves while keeping his secrets safe? Can he hide his true nature and allow the corrupt king to remain on the throne? Or will he have to unveil himself and risk possible execution to save them all?

I used to read multiple books a day, devouring all the books I could get my hands on. But lately something has changed. Lost is my desire to pick up a book. To escape into worlds unknown. I don't know why, I can't explain it. It makes no sense to me. I don't remember a time in my adult life that I wasn't reading. This is all new to me. I can honestly say that I have only read 2 books in the last six months. Well, 3 now. And that's where this sad post turns happy. Today I picked up the newest book from author Devri Walls, The Wizard's Heir. And I found myself riveted. Once again thirsting for the words on the page. I plopped myself in my chair and escaped to a place full of magic, action, and hope. A place that quickly had me falling in love with everything.Characters were strong, quick witted, and real. With troubles as real as ones we face everyday. Devri Walls created characters that were easy to see. Each character became real as she skillfully wrote dialogue and inner monologues that gave us robust characters as rich as any person could be. She successfully orchestrated and played with my heart strings, getting me to invest emotionally in her characters. With every word I read I wanted to know, no I needed to know, what happened to her characters. To Tybolt and Auriella. Suddenly my life became all about Tybolt and his internal battles. His inner desires and destiny. Nothing else mattered as I devoured every word laid before me.Devri Walls makes it so easy to fall into her worlds, with writing that is both flawless and flowing like water. She truly is an artist. Making it easy to see her worlds, characters, and their power. To feel it. With every word she writes you fall even more into her world and soon you forget you are even reading a book. The Wizard's Heir became the perfect escape. It was full of action, humor, and magic. Three of things that I most dearly crave in a book. I can say that there was even a hot guy or two.Everything about this story left me satisfied. I traveled to another world, met incredible characters, and experienced life as a badass Hunter and Wizard and I couldn't ask for more. But I can.I always can. With ultimate satisfaction comes the desire to feel it again. So naturally I want more. Though this is a stand alone novel, for which I am thankful because there is no agonizing wait for the next installment, but I honestly would not complain if I got to feel the satisfaction of experiencing the world of The Wizard's Heir again.

I'm one of those people that try to wait until all of the books in a series are out so I can read one and just move right on to the next one. Having read this author's other series (which is also amazing), I knew that I'd love this one too and didn't want to have to wait. I was literally cheering out loud when I heard it was a standalone. As fantasy characters go, this book had wizards and hunters and humans. It was simple and not over the top with many kinds of creatures, which I thought was great because then I didn't have to keep track of what each creature was and what it could do. I was able to enjoy the story without having to rack my brain.Tybolt was my kind of dude. Not in the romantical sense, but in the "I can totally relate to this character" sense. Sure, he was smart, funny, and resourceful... but the thing that got me most was the size of his heart. His generosity towards the people around him just hit me straight in the soul. He's the kind of person I want to be.The plot twists and character twists in this story really kept surprising me. Usually I can guess what's going to happen, but this time it wasn't so cut and dry. There's only one thing I would change, and that is that I wish there'd been just a little more romance development. There wasn't quite enough for my preference, but enough to satisfy my need for it.Overall, I loved this book! It had everything I look for in an epic adventure, all compressed into one book. Highly recommend! I look forward to the next book by this author.

In addition, the story jumps around without rationale...too many significant gaps. I truly hoped this would be really entertaining, but it was a disappointment. The characters are muddy, the action unfocused and without real reason...Devri, it feels like an incomplete story that needs to be further developed and polished.
