The strongest case yet for an inclusive church, the kind that was and has been, and lays bare its historical, theological, and spiritual roots.Diarmuid O'Murchu holds tight the millions on the margins as well as the outsiders who honor Jesus but feel they don't fit in because of alternative vision or minority status resulting form race, ethnicity, social standing or sexual orientation.Inclusivity is not only for Christians but also for people of other faiths attracted to the vision and life of Jesus but disenchanted with the language of exclusivity and power. It presents faith dynamic characterized by discipleship with an adult Jesus in the service of an adult God. It is a gift of the "Pope Francis effect," an inevitable drive to reach out and bring in. It is the next step in a movement toward spiritual wholeness.

Review "Diarmuid continues to bring fresh eyes and prophetic vision to the wounded Church he loves. Like a good medical doctor, in Inclusivity: A Gospel Mandate he skilfully diagnoses the long festering wounds of radical patriarchy and the scandal of exclusion and writes a prescription for healing." -- Donald Cozzens

Wintermyer One of the great scenes from the film The Mission is when a Portuguese soldier in a period of conversion is climbing up a steep rocky gorge next to a significant waterfall to reach a a Jesuit mission. He carries on his back an extremely heavy amount of military gear on his back, held by a large strap across his shoulders. Suddenly a knife appears as if to stab this intruder. Instead, the knife cuts the strap holding the gear and the whole weighty baggage crashes into the falls. With one stroke, the soldier is freed from his past. The Church plays into this scene in a very similar way with 2000 years of accretions which have added layers and layers of additions which simply burden the institution as well as those people of sincere faith who want to find the true message and meaning of Jesus life. The Gospels themselves begin this process of collection of additives which would make even Jesus feel burdened.Diarmuid O'Murchu, with great insight, helps us to begin the process of removing the excess baggage accrued over centuries. This book, INCLUSIVITY, helps us focus on a basic message of Jesus which is a call to include all people of our world. The true vision of the Gospel is that we are part of a "Kingdom for all people", not a group of excluders who wish only to close doors. The authors approach similar to using a telescope, not the narrow lens which sees things in miniature , but with the wider view of the other lens which gives a wider and deeper perspective of the gospels, as Pope Francis presents us with the vision of a merciful and gentle Church, focused on people in pain. The author breaks multiple barriers and presents us, as adults, to realize that "exclusivity" and discrimination cannot be gospel values. This view crosses all lines, whether women seeking full rights and roles in the Church, or the gay community whose deep love is fully respected, or divorced and remarried persons who are refused Eucharist by a "locked door" institution, and fully recognized, not as "sinners", but as loving and sincere persons who have great spiritual gifts for the community and should never be excluded. The author's vision and insight help us to truly visualize a Church that embraces all and only then do we realize the "Kingdom of God" , or as the author so strongly states it, "The Companionswhip of Empowerment", is a reality here, now with us

By Kevin Burns This book plummets us into a depth of human history whereby we see how exclusiveness was/is lived and celebrated in our communities. O'Murchu beautifully leads us into a new understanding of human destiny and engenders an enthusiasm to work for inclusivity, unity, and a loving oneness for all of life.

His interpretations may seem strange amidst the "denominator" divide of Christianity. New historical and cultural evidence only bolsters his case that the gospel and the Kingdom of God is about welcoming the stranger, the outsider, even the outcast without condition of entry. Not the Christianity I know. Wonderful read.
