About the Author After fifteen years of ministry in the Chicago metropolitan area, most recently as the Associate Pastor for Youth Ministry at Fourth Presbyterian Church, John W. Vest currently serves as the Visiting Assistant Professor of Evangelism at Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond, Virginia. He holds degrees from Rice University (B.A.), the University of Chicago Divinity School (M.Div.), and McCormick Theological Seminary (D.Min.), and has studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He is co-founder of the Progressive Youth Ministry conference and blogs about his “Adventures in Post-Christendom” at johnvest.com. An enthusiastic pitmaster, John dreams of one day achieving the mystical union of church and BBQ.

By The Ladybug's Spot Bookstore Even though I live far from Pastor Vest, I've followed his blog and sermons for years and often wished he would write and publish a book for teens and their families. I enjoyed reading It's Not Conformation and sharing Vest's intuition and insightful ideas with my teen daughters as I read. He sums it up beautifully toward the end of the last message/ chapter when he states, "Youth Ministry -- like all church ministry -- must be about participating in what God is doing in the world. And God is making all things new." I hope Pastor Vest continues to write more books on this topic. Our family will be first in line to read them! -- Jen in North Carolina

By jsreed2800 This is an excellent collection of sermons by a forward-thinking youth pastor. The sermons put forth Rev. John Vest's views on confirmation and how youth and, yes, adults can stay engaged in their faith. Rev. Vest is skilled at weaving in superheroes and other pop culture to make his points. These sermons are definitely worth reading and thinking about for both clergy and lay people.
