Review "Came home from vacation to this beautiful book of the amazing children, men, and women with alopecia. So happy to be a part of this amazing project. The book documents the many lives alopecia has touched and how truly beautiful these human beings are on the inside and out." - Kimarie M. "I have to tell you that I'm very impressed and "MOVED" by your book... So happy that I got to you before end of conference and sale and got a copy. (So like me to wait to the last minute before closing up shop. - but I always seem to make it!) Reading it story and story and really absorbing the impact. Sincere KUDOS!" - Leo F.
About the Author After thirty seven years of having some form of alopecia areata, I finally met others who understood. I stopped feeling alone in my journey and began writing about my experience. I soon discovered who I was without hair. The book journey began when I realized there were more stories to be told. As a child, I yearned to know someone else who looked like me and understood how I felt. Head-On, Stories of Alopecia has become everything I would have wanted to see and read when I was first diagnosed. More about me...This is my indie-published, non-fiction debut. Thirty years ago, I unwillingly exchanged the steady California sunshine for the perpetual liquid sunshine of Washington State, and I now happily call Skagit Valley my home. I spend my time working with my husband, Cedar, in our re-purposing/salvage company, constantly reminding my children to pick up after themselves, and trying not to injure myself or teammates while playing competitive volleyball with my slightly disorganized and aging team. My love of Hawaiian music and strong desire to one day properly learn to hula dance are small ways I try to connect with my Hawaiian heritage. My biggest accomplishments in life are becoming a published author, building my home piece by piece, dismantling and re-purposing a 16,000 square foot horse arena, and the ability to stay married after doing all of these things together with my husband of 22 years.

By Tanya Huang I've had alopecia since I was 10 years old, and it's been a journey.I've met over a hundred people with alopecia from running a support group here in Vancouver, Canada. I can speak for myself and countless others, that the best cure for this unpredictable autoimmune condition is learning to love yourself as you are. When you do, you are happy whether your hair is all gone, partially gone, growing back awkwardly, or in remission! :) If you don't, you are stressed even when the hair has grown back, because you'd worry about the possibility of losing it at any time.I thought I'd be the last person to love my bald self. Not in a million years! Yet here I am, super amazed still about what happened. When I backtracked to understand what got me to open up and see myself differently, I realized it was from hearing inspiring stories of other people with alopecia. So this book does exactly this, except better. Instead of taking years to see yourself more positively by meeting inspiring people here and there, this book has so many inspiring stories (75 total), giving you condensed and diverse view of how other people with alopecia have coped and thrived.I like that the book has stories of men, women, kids, and parents' perspectives. Different ages, different parts of the world. There are celebrities too, which is always cool. Many role models in here!I love that the stories are incredibly well written by each person with alopecia, and photos are stunning! I attached a few photos for you to get an idea of what it's like inside. I like the organization of the book too, so I took a photo of the table of contents. The value you'll get out of this book is far beyond its price. Definitely get it. In the near future when you look back on this moment, you'll be happy that you did :)

I obtained a copy of this wonderful book from the author after hearing about it through Alopecia Support groups on Facebook. My son who is now 10, lost all of his hair when he was 7. Because it is so rare and because the disease is not life threatening, so little is still known or research conducted about this autoimmune disease. As a mother, it is so hard to process the why and hows and what to do. Because it is a visible disease and often misunderstood for cancer, it can be so isolating. From reading about the author to every single story in this book, my family doesn't feel alone. The stories are from all over the world and I know that my son has an incredible family of Alopecians out there ready to support him and deal with it together.

What a wonderful collection of stories of strong and brave individuals. Everyone faces some hardship in their lives but unless you've experienced living with hair loss, you can't really appreciate the daily difficulties that people endure. This collection of stories is so professionally put together with beautiful photography. One has to credit the author for the quality of this project. I would definitely recommend this book as a must read wither you are experiencing hair loss or not. Every time I read it, I can't help but admire the people that are highlighted in the book.
