He avoids the cheesy exemplary applications that all-too often accompany such books. Instead, he masterfully applies exegetically-sound principles from each prayer and brings them close to home in powerful, memorable illustrations from modern Christian life. His "Learning to Pray" sections are a highlight in the book. The canonical ordering of the prayers from Abraham in Genesis to John in his Revelation allows for an amazingly concise survey of Redemptive-History. This is another great feature of the book. Coleman provides the context and background, which enables the reader to understand the what, when and why of each prayer without becoming too wordy.Theologically, the book is sound. Coleman emphasizes the sovereignty of God, but also the necessity and responsibility of prayer in the Christian life. The person and work of the Holy Spirit (pneumatology) and the High Priestly role of Christ, which are both very important to prayer, are surprisingly a mute point. However, this is probably a consequence of the graciously short and digestible chapters. In fact, this book would be very helpful for an individual, family or small-group devotional. The discussion questions at the end of each chapter are pointed, relevant, thoughtful and challenging.Whether you are a layman or minister, young or old, an infant in Christ or a seasoned saint, I recommend that you pick up this book. It will challenge you to think about prayer, and by the grace of God and the work of His Spirit in and by the Word, it will make you pray. Thank you, Rev. Coleman for taking us to the Scriptures. To God be the glory.A W Fortenberry - MA Wheaton College, MAR Westminster Theological Seminary (Philadelphia)

Good read By Rick 73000 Enjoyed the book.I may not be in the same camp with the author on a couple of things (we may not see a tulip the same way) but it was a refreshing read to see some of the prayers from scripture discussed as they were with a current illustration at the end of each chapter. It was well arranged with short chapters and kept my interest from beginning to end.My prayer life is probably the most consistent it's been in my 40 years as a Christian, but there were a couple of chapters that were particularly thought provoking as I compared what I pray for to the prayers of those saints whose prayers discussed in this book.I had downloaded a novel to read this past weekend but this Kindle book kept my attention instead. I will read it again.

By karen coleman This book gave me a deeper understanding of who God is and how he worked in the lives of his people in circumstances that I face today. I know that God is the same yesterday and today. God is just as faithful to his people today as He was to generations past. What I like most about the book is that it directs you to the Bible. There is great power and wisdom in the word of God.
